I can't see Soliola playing centre, he not fast enough and looks to be a big hitting tough backrow we have lacked.

I would see whats about and if we can bring in two new players for meli and flannery then that would be great but i think they will both get one year deal as the ain't anyone out there to bring in.

I honestly don't see the problem. Seriously, if someone had told me four years ago we'd reach the GF four times in a row and lose I'd have taken it. When Martyn retired, Scully began breaking down repeatedly and Keiron had that bad year with his elbow I thought our number was up. There were a lot of great players either leaving or reaching the ends of the careers. We had no money to replace them (certainly none for world record transfers) and McManus said repeatedly that we had to cut costs and go with the juniors. I had primed myself fully for three or four modest years whilst other sides took their turn at the glory.

Given the above I think we have done remarkably well. Our fullback is paceless. Our wingers can't catch. We have one recognised centre who is close to pensionable age. Our backline in general has little penetration. Our stand-off's form has been sketchy. At scrum-half we've either fielded an old crock or a young crock (admittedly with sublime skills). We've run with a Wigan-reject as a starting prop whilst Cayless' form dropped into the abyss. Our star foreign signing was wiped out at the start of this season and all of our best youngsters have been crocked for lengthy periods etc.

With this in mind I think it's been a phucking MIRACLE we've done so well!

Next season we'll start clawing back some of the ground we have lost on other teams over the last three or four years. The signings we have made are about as good as I hoped for. All of this current generation of kids (with the possible exception of Lomax) will be fully mature and far more capable of dealing with the physical aspect of the game. With a bit of luck the extra bulk will protect them against the kind of battering only SL dishes out. For the first time in four years I'm quite optimistic.

Barrett's form was excellent until Wigan went out of the CC against Catalans. He was anonymous in that game and his performances in almost all of the big matches thereafter were very sketchy.

If we can improve our defence we'll in the Grand Final playing Wigoon next year. Leeds and Wire need to grab hold of a huge forward or hope we have injuries before they will force their way into my reckoning for the title next year.

The one big thing we have to overcome next year is playing at Widnes. We'll effectively be playing our home games at a neutral venue which is a disadvantage although KR hasn't been a fortress for a good couple of years now so I suppose it might not be as crucial as we think.

If the new coach has us training there as soon as he arrives (assuming we have use of the stadium obviously) then we should be familiar enough with it to play on it as well or otherwise as anywhere else. I think it will be advantageous to us to play on a bigger pitch as I reckon it hasn't helped us being at home on probably the smallest pitch in the league.

Surely your better of on a smaller pitch? With the frontrow you'll have next year, smashing teams into the ground will be your best option for success. On a wider pitch your slow backs will be exposed to an even greater extent just like they were in the GF on the large Old Trafford pitch.

We're better off from a home game POV, sure, but not when we play elsewhere and definitely not when at the Grand Final. We could do with having to cope with a bigger pitch. It keeps us in touch with the real world.

Granted, although if, by some miricle we keep wheeler (assuming he's playing centre), Easmond and new centre Senton fit, we shouldn't [ias[/i worried about defending against pace out wide.

I think keeping hold of Eastmond will be a tall order and I dont think Saints will sell their soul for one player.

Given the length of his last contract, I expeted him to play this year (his first full season at scrum half) and then renegotiate a longer term deal once we knew he could handle the 7 shirt. The fact he's been injured so much will disrupt that, meaning if he has a stormer next season, we will have trouble getting him to resign come the end of the year when his contract expires.

I'm still not sure any Union club will spend that much money on a player that probably won't want to play on the wing, is fairly untested and is injury prone.

The Union talk was a lot of bluster from his agent to try and up his deal because no other SL club would be able to afford to pay him much more than us.

Eastmond won't go to Union IMO. He's just signed a big money deal to be the face of the new rugby league game and I'm sure it's s couple of years the contract lasts for. The Union talk was all agent talk.
