Never claimed it was. But the point is our reserves (Flanagan, Mossop even Pryce played today) are still in the first team.

| A good win for Wigan - how did Lee Gaskell do for Saints. Does he look capable of making an impact in SL?

He looks promising. Was given Saints Man of the Match by the League Express reporter and impressed when playing for Saints U18s v Wigan last month,

Thanks. Hoping Gaskell may make a good centre or stand off as we need to progress in these positions going forward. the three quarter line in particular needs an injection of pace.

| He came on from the subs bench into the centre position and his first contribution was to make a 40 metre break from whichSaints should have scored and IMO would have wrapped the game up at 18 - 0, however Wheeler was caught from behind when he had 20 metres to the line with a 5 metres start.
Gaskell made one bad error near the end of the game when he knocked on fielding a kick, but he looks a really talented and quick player. he also appears to be a talker / organiser.
I just hope Saints don't bulk him up too much, which from the outside appears to have happened with Wheeler and Eastmond.

| This was one hell of a game.
Wheeler is not a 6 IMO!
Lee Gaskell is the guy you should look to the future for from your academy.
That saints team should of walked all over Wigan, I am chuffed with that result.

On paper you ould have suggested that but that is not where the games are decided, particularly at academy level.
I have every confidence in Wheeler - do not forget that he is making his way back from injuries so is going to be rusty when thrown in to a 'decision making' position.
Hope Gaskell can make it. Glad someone has said he is speedy.
On a Wigan note, they seem to be getting their sact together in bridging the success of their junior teams and making the transition to SL (e.g Tomkins, Mossop and Ainscough) although I am not sure whether that is by accident or by design with Brian Noble.

| Did that Joe Mellor play well? He scored a hat trick against Saints in an academy GF that I watched.
Looked like a decent prospect.

Man of the match, and still could play academy this year.
He is very, very quick, although only slightly built. He should be awarded a place in Wigans accelerator squad next season. Strangely he has improved since Sam got promoted to the first team, probably because he has had to take on a little more responsibility.

Yeah, when I watched him (when he was a bit younger too) he looked lightning quick compared to the opposition.
He absolutely blitzed through for one of his tries without anyone getting near him. I thought then he would have a decent future as he looked ahead of his contempories by quite a bit.

thought he was already in the accelerator squad rogues? wernt it something like tuson, mossop, mellor, thornley, davies, ainscough, logan tomkins, farrell ?
personally having played against him and with him i was delighted when we got him over leatherbarrow! it is extremely realistic to expect a halfback partnership of mellor and tomkins. he needs another 2 years minimum in reserves/loan deals before he is ready for some games.
looking forward to the reserve final now at the dw next sunday, be a monumentus occasion, is it the first time wigan have actually used the dw/jjb for a reserve game?

59-28 was a good victory. Please elaborate on the above. I noticed Leeds had a man sent off.

Pretty much that sending off. Saints 15 makes a half break, so their number 11 runs five meters to clothes line him, then acts like he has done nothing wrong when the card is pulled out.

Both of them do, apparently, but Foster is supposed to be extremely good at it.
