| Some odd ones from a well known sports internet site:
Quote Paul Wellens: certainly one of Saints' best performers, could not be faulted for any of the tries and dangerous on attack. 8.
Jamie Foster: quiet game on his Grand Final debut. 6.
Matt Gidley: never got to make an impact on his farewell appearance and returns to Australia with four losers' medals. 6.
Francis Meli: missed one tryscoring chance but claimed a consolation just before the end. 7.
Jonny Lomax: had nothing to reproach himself for, a lively display on his Grand Final debut. 8.
Jon Wilkin: created Saints' try and was one of his side's best players. 7.
Matty Smith: no end to this fairytale but contributed well in a losing cause. 7.
James Graham: typical non-stop effort but mostly in vain. 7.
Keiron Cunningham: will not look back fondly on his last match as he enters retirement. 6.
Bryn Hargreaves: unable to make a big impact on his farewell appearance for the club. 6.
Sia Soliola: made his presence felt early in the game before fading. 6.
Chris Flannery: worked hard at centre and in the middle to turn the tide. 7.
Tony Puletua: made an early impression with his strong running but faded. 6.
Subs:
James Roby: injected a new purpose when introduced midway through the first half. 7.
Paul Clough: made some nice contributions but the game was effectively over by the time he made his entrance. 6.
Andrew Dixon: on hand to score his side's first-half try. 7.
Jacob Emmitt: produced some determined bursts on his last appearance for the club. 6.'"
Can't believe Flannery and Wilkin got better scores than TP, Soliola and Foster.

TP was stifled very well, he got nothing through.
Soliola should get a 4 for me. He set the ball rolling with his ridiculous offload attempt on our 30 that led to their first try and he needlessly conceeded the penalty that led to their second.

He did a superb save on a try and did his best with Meli who wasn't engaging in defence. I was at the corner where the tries came through. Lomax was not the issue. He gave a good account of himself. Has he ever played centre before?

Well, he wasn't the only one to do that! I think we gave away 10 penalties? Or was it more of a horror show than that? I dunno. I left with five minutes to go.

| felt sorry for jonny lomax in his first grand final his coach plays him in an unformiliar position and he struggled with his defending but hes a great young player who will get better and better.foster for me was a little bit shy and nervous took a great catch in the air but other than that i counted him making 3 carries i think and thats not good enough at the top level.

I didn't notice Tony P at all last night but I did notice Roby. He zapped things up when he came on. I'm looking forward to seeing him play under a different coach next season.
As for the young guys, I think they were terrific. It was our experienced players who let us down. Again.

| I thought most of our overseas signings were well below par, but that was probably down to the Wigoons containment defence. The only saints player worth a mention would probably be Roby.

| Paul Wellens: 8: The only vet to stand up in this game.
Jamie Foster: 7 Did all that could have been expected of him.
Matt Gidley: 5 Didnt get involved until it was too late, ineffective.
Francis Meli: 6 Lively preformance but did look confused in defense.
Jonny Lomax: 6 Tried hard but was not able to have a big influence on the game, except for his try saving tackle on Leuleui.
Jon Wilkin: 6 busy in attack but made errors.
Matty Smith: 6 Tried hard but made some poor decisions and kicked poorly in the first half. It is easy to forget he is still a young man. "A" for effort
James Graham: 8 worked hard on his own in the front row. Didn't get going until late in the game.
Keiron Cunningham: 5 cannot remember him doing much. Sad end to a legend.
Bryn Hargreaves: 5. No go forward but he did as well as he could.
Sia Soliola: 5 looked out of shape in the first 20 mins and made mistakes that resulted in wigan tries but ran hard.
Chris Flannery: 4 exposed three times in defence resulting in 2 tries (saved once by Lomax)
Tony Puletua: 8 ran strong.
Subs:
James Roby: 8 changed the game and gave us a cutting edge Cunningham failed to give us.
Paul Clough: 6. Worked hard but I cannot remember anything he did.
Andrew Dixon: 7. played well when came on and ran a good line for his try.
Jacob Emmitt: 6 did a good shift when Graham was off.

I agree, he was the only forward that wasn't stopped in tha tracks as soon as wigan hit them.
Lomax (and meli) got taken apart big time on our left but lomax looked ok with the ball in hand, don't forget he's not played for about a month and imo shouldn't have played for that reason.
Wilkin should have got a big fat 0, because he's crap.

Maybe but it was when you moved the ball to our left that won the game.
It's not often jammer gets owned like he did last night so can't be to harsh on him.

Maybe he was hiding that much the Wigan defence didn't notice when he snuck past them?

I thought Tony P had a terrible game on Saturday (along with most of the team, obviously).

I didn't think we were as bad as people are making out, but Wigan were exceptional and never allowed us into the game.
We were missing our two first choice half backs and played like we did. Missing Eastmond and Pryce cannot be underestimated, whilst I do not think it would have guaranteed a win, we'd have been in with a chance of winning with five minutes left IMO. The pack was fighting a losing battle because of this, with Wigan picking up possession in far better positions than we did and there was also us making mistakes that cost us, and handed them, tries.
I know you have a bit of a thing for him, but Smith for me showed why we were correct in letting him go. He had an very good game against Wire, but was little better than average against Huddersfield and was worse on Saturday. His kicking game was poor and he offered nothing with ball in hand. We looked better when Lomax moved more centrally and Roby came on as we finally gave their defence something to think about.
Wigan's defence was intense, and we didn't have the players to stretch that, they did in Tomkins at full back and while we were reduced to one on one tackles allowing them to get quick ptb, they were getting 3 men into each tackle.
Take two of Tomkins and Leuluai or Deacon out of their side and it would have been far closer.
