According to the RL press, it is strongly rumoured that the Magic weekend will be back in Cardiff next year. I don't have a problem with that. However, some bright spark has come up with the idea that it should be the opening weekend in February. Who in their right mind is going to spend two days freezing their extremities off? Please feel free to contact the RFL by e-mail enquiries@rfl.uk.com to give your views. I already have, but as yet have had no reply. No surprise there. Can someone please copy this on Red Vee. i strongly disagree.its bad enough freezing your bits off watching your own team in february,no way am i freezing them off watching someone else.too cold to be sat there for 6 hrs roof or no roof.

The majority of fans seem to want Cardiff, so it looks like fan power has won out here. Personaly I dont care for the weekend, and would be happy to see it scrapped. The RFL seem to believe it draws interest to our game, no idea how myself, its not like thousands of welsh turned up in cardiff, or thousands of scots turned up in Edinburgh.

Atleast if they do go with feb, they have it in the best place to do so i.e The Millenium stadium, shut the roof and put the radiators on.

British Rail only offer a winter train service(reduced) at weekends during February to Cardiff. Do the RFL know this.

Never liked the Magic Weekend concept much myself. If they did move it to the first week I think it would be a slight improvement as it could be a big media-publicitised start to the season but would prefer it to just be scrapped. If they had it in week one what would the format be? I hope it's not a return to derbies which I think diluted the derbies and I believe Good Friday should be the first meeting between Saints and Wigan.

The rumour is it's going to be derbies again.

there was a series of focus groups at the end of last year when this kind of thing was discussed. where and when to hold the Magic Weekend was one of the discussion areas, I dont remember anyone suggesting having it in February though, although most people agreed that a "big bang" was the best way to start the season.

Look out for the Grand Final moving to the Emirates Stadium soon too

I honestly don't think it's a good idea.
I've been to all four and really enjoyed the weekend. What I suspect will happen is that the majority will do day trips and only watch their own teams.

I'm now starting to look for flights to Tenerife and watch the games in my mates bar over there.

I like the idea on the premise that if we have to have something (the RFL seem dead set on fixture 27) then the opening of the season is the best time to have it - to launch the event rather than a mid season league game, but that takes promoting to a level unseen from the RFL.

The problem with February is that its pretty shiizer on the weather front everywhere in the UK, at least with Cardiff the roof closes and the game conditions will be better than all the games would have been (unless its dry and bright which means the event would have no weather worries to start with) and if cold and damp, the weather is going to force those that do travel inside which pubs and bars are not going to mind one bit.

The half term holiday being later is bound to hit some attendences as a lot of schools don't finish on the 11th this time round, meaning kids are in school 8am Monday 14th & parents won't want to take a days holiday a week before half term.

An earlier start/finish on Sunday may make it a bit more attractive to weekend trips say 12, 2 & 4 on Sunday so latest finish is 6pm - allowing a relatively "early" return to the M62

I'm glad it's moved back to Cardiff, but the weather is a massive concern obviously. I'll probably go next year though.
