Perry has some qualities superior to any other of our front rows, specifically, the way he dominates the opposition forwards when tackling them. He plays it very well, watching the ref and holding down just enough not to get penalised (if he has an off day on this though, he'll give awaya hotful).
He also sucks in a lot of defenders when carrying the ball.
He directs the defenders around him well by being very vocal.
However,
He doesn't make enough yards on the whole.
In high paced matches (like the spankings from Wigan), he looks behind the game and (see above) fatigue appears to cause him to lose his grip on the ptb, giving away silly penalties.
He owes us a big, big year next year. I was hopeful of big things in the playoffs from him after the sharp upturn in his form over the second half of the season, but frankly he was a disaster in the 2 Wire games. I wouldn't be a bit unhappy if he went home early to be honest.
He has a faultless a conversion rate and a 100% try return on all his kicks in play! Next season you could have
Perry as stand off and Lance H at front row.
He seemed to try too hard in the first Wire game but he has had so many injuries to contend with and I don't
think he's had sufficient chance to settle in properly with a row of consecutive games. He must have some unnoticeable
qualities as he was part of your pack which steam rolled ours in the first half like no other pack has done
for a long time.
I really do think, bar injury, that'll he'll do some serious damage next year.
You've one hell of a pack, and combine that with the growing experience of your many younger players; then
you've a lot to look forward to next season.
This pudding will be playing for a new contract next year so no doubt it will be his best (although this wont be too hard to achieve) year in the red vee. IMO whoever signed this guy along with Hoioha (sp) & giving Wilkin a FOUR year deal needs to be tarred & feathered on the town hall steps. Our recruitement policy over the last 18 months has been dodgey to say the least, maybe the new ground was a distraction but should have no excuses next year but only time will tell.
