Has anyone any experience with Topspin/Fanbridge/Bandcamp etc? Looking at Direct to Fan marketing, and managing our sales/downloads, but can't be d doing it ourselves. |

Bandcamp is a superb platform for showcasing/distributing your music digitally. I was a little apprehensive about using it first but it's the most user friendly site of that kind. Links very nicely to other social networking platforms as well.

Hope I've not missed it, what date is the Ramsbottom gig? Don't live too far away, might get there. Ever played the Towler in Tottington?
In the meantime, my best mate's band Black Swan Rising is making serious inroads in Manchester, having played a load of gigs including Academy, Caged Asylum (  ) and many others, and the Glaston-Bury and Festwich festivals. They've blown every other band away at every gig I've seen - except when they supported Guns2Roses, but their material is kinda hard to beat!
Unfortunately the drummer has just departed and whilst my mate wants me to replace him, I have a 'difficult' relationship with the bassist. We clashed in the past and get on now, but being in a band together might be a bit too much.

Most of our next gigs are around Preston. We will have a free download going live after Christmas ahead of our ep launch in Feb. |

What's the best thing to do if I want to start learning the piano - buy myself a book and teach myself, or start off with a teacher and get the basics down first?

well you will need your own fully weighted piano in my opinion, the only way to get a sound out that will sound like what you are listening to.
Then it's up to you, take a few starter lessons then go it alone, but whatever you try, stick at it and try and learn some songs you like, even if it 's just a few intros. Most songs are just Verse section Chorus section, to learn them all the way through is to usually just learn 20 seconds of each.

| If you want to learn piano/keys.. imho it is best to explore it yourself. I don't think learning from a book helps one bit, will probably hold you back in the long run. Best to experiment and see what it can do, esp with keys/piano as it is such a visual instrument. It kind of depends what u want to get out of it. Personally I went from synths to piano without much trouble so I am not sure a piano weighted keyboard is that essential when you start out, especially with the expense. Enjoy, let me know how u get on! |
