I might do rebellion this year .

I'm wanting to experience a European festival within the next 2/3 years. Something like Benicassim (bit obvious), Pukkelpop or Groezrock would be lovely.

As for UK festivals there are only a handful I'd be interested in. Field Day, Arc Dan Gent and Beacons.

Just a fortnight ago I went to Holland to see Marillion play their bi-annual fans convention to 3,500 folk at a parcs exclusive to the band & it's fans. The gigs are played in a specially built tent with two or three support bands each night & Marillion play three different gigs with almost nine hours of music. It's the fourth time I've done that trip & it's out of this world, a big three day & night party.
In a fortnight I'm off to Hard rock hell "prog" at Rotherham's Magna centre, two days of old & new up and coming bands, it's almost a festival i suppose.

I don't do the corporate pi$$ take festivals nowadays, the fences are too high for me to climb over at my age....

Wacken would be nice.

Going to Benicassim, anyone been before? I'm pretty sure of what to expect but looking for opinions from others.

2013 is the first Glasto I missed since 2002.





I'm gutted to be missing it especially as the line up looks better than it has for a while.

I used to go to V and Carling Leeds but have given them a miss in more recent years since they're more of a rip off/less well organised than Glasto.

I tried Latitude in 2011 which was another rip off. I hate those festivals where you can't take your own drink into the "arena". There you couldn't even take your own water even though the taps weren't working.

I enjoyed DeerShed in 2010, The Wedding Present headlined. Smaller festivals are great but I like to have at least one band on that I like. No idea where to go this year, a mate recommends the Wicker Man Fest.

I'll take a few more answers like that.

I don't see the point in festivals, or how you can enjoy them anymore? I went to Leeds 2 years ago and it was just full of 16/17 year olds off their heads and just generally ing everyone off!!

In seeming contradiction to my previous post, I'm now off to 'Specialized - The Big One Two' in Dorset in November as I've kindly been gifted a press pass.

I love festivals now as much as I always have.
I'm in my mid 20s and been to at least one festival every year for probably 8 years now.
While the music is probably slightly worse (will always happen with the sheer volume of festivals bands have the option of playing now) I don't think the atmosphere is generally any different.
I've been to Leeds and TITP regularly and I don't buy into this 'kids are taking over at festivals' stuff. 16/17 year olds have always been at events like this.

Gutted I couldn't go to Glastonbury this year, never been and always wanted to. Bruce Springsteen at Hard Rock Calling and Kasabian in the week at Brid Spa certainly softens the blow though.

Glastonbury for me, my last one! Too old for five days on the lash and sleeping on rough ground.

My Dad's been going for years and he's just gone 70 so you need to man up



I find an airbed makes it more bareable.

I know, but it knocks hell out of me for about five days later, just out of interest, is your dad a greedy pig that can't stop drinking from getting there on Wednesday till getting in the car on Monday morning?

I must confess I need a day off on the Tuesday to recover once I get back from it all.

My Dad is retired so he doesn't have this problem but he is a marathon runner so is in better shape than me. He is known to hang around the real ale tent by the acoustic stage a fair bit

So there is a bit of a difference, marathon runner V Alecart! Lol
We tend to hang around that area quite a lot, especially if it's rained being high up, be there this year on Saturday, wanna see Stevie Winwood.

Decided to get a T in T Park ticket with some mates today.
Looking forward to it a lot although I'm not overly keen on the lineup this year.

Not a festival/event as such, but following up my Scandinavia tour last year (Keane in Copenhagen and Orbital in Oslo 2 days later) with a trip to Geneva to see Peter Gabriel in October

Wacken tomorrow, via Hamburg/St Pauli

. Although you can find better lineups elsewhere, you can't beat Wacken as a festival as a whole. Well worth going to, if you're into the heavier end of the musical spectrum.

Been to two festivals over the past few weeks - Bingley and Bestival. Really recommend both, Bingley is only £45 for a weekend ticket - Chic and Primal Scream headlined - and Bestival is a brilliant experience, completely surreal and a decent varied line-up.
