| Anybody know anything about Ben Shiels and Keenan Dyer Dixon?
Both were in the Academy/Scholarship team photo, Shiels has a profile on the clubs official site, Dyer Dixon was in the travelling squad to Newcastle in pre season, neither have came through our scholarship.
From what i can see, both are first year under 18 age, Shiels is from Saddleworth, Dixon from Yarnbury RU, both outside backs. Shiels played for England Community Lions against the NSW country team at the end of last year and won Lancashires players player and Coaches player award for the Lancashire / Yorkshire / Cumbria U17 community Tri series last season. Dixon is apparently absolutely rapid.
Anyone know any more? Have we signed them, just on trial, highly rated, seen them play etc....

Centre for Newcastle no. 4 Issac Nokes very good.

Joe Burtons quality imo, impressed every time i see him, fantastic stepping ability and balance.
Im a big fan of Nokes for Newcastle, thought he was the best player on the pitch for England academy against wales in october, big lad aswel.

| Are the Academy home games going to be live on YouTube again this season ?
Just judging from the highlights, Joe Burton looked like he is back in form after a tough season last year.
Also on Isaac Nokes, an NRL club scout who I talk regularly with was also very impressed with him in that England/Wales game.

| 18s getting battered at home by wigan 24 - 0 just before half time. Got to say..im massively underwhelmed by Chev Walker as a coach. We'v played dreadful rugby all pre season under him and his team selections are really bizzare. Both these 1st and 2nd year 18s beat these wigan counterparts comfortably at scholorship level under Butterill.

Would have been the other way round for me, he’d have been in charge of the reserves, but I’m guessing the club wanted to give Rob Burrow less work due to his diagnosis. I still wouldn’t be surprised to see Walker end up reserve coach, JJB under 18s and then Gilmour in as assistant in the future.

This 100% , couldnt agree more. Apart from the awful performances and weird team selections, his interviews always seem miles off the mark to me...this isnt just a reaction to tonights hammering, but havnt been impressed atall from what iv seem from him so far.
Tonights going to be a cricket score the way its going, rubbish.

| Tough night for the u18's it looked like Wigan u21's v our u18's.
Their pack were just too big & their HB's & FB ran the show off the back of it.
For us Rowley Mayhew Gibbons & Stephens had a reasonable dig in Defence but overall we were outclassed out muscled & out thought.
I dont know what Chev & Brett Delaney are like as Coaches tbh but tonight they looked out of their depth.
As a side good to see Jason Robinson there watching his lad not sure what Sinfield willmake of his mates coaching efforts though.

| Team out muscled 2nite thats for sure. Wigan too big and dominant up the middle. Cut us too easily in the middle of the park but its a very young Leeds team and weve no half backs.
Not sure what people are saying about team selection but the club simply does not have enough players to fill the teams. So theres lots of sorting out to do.

Come on Seth you are miles off with this one put your old working relationship with Fox to one side. He was out of his depth at Leeds ask any parent player or coach who worked under him most will tell you the same. He wasnt the answer far far from it he's a 13s coach at best and lucky to get the gig he has but time will tell how long that lasts.
Said it a million times they have a great junior coach but for whatever reason he gets overlooked on the gigs thats are going. It might be jobs for the boys it might not i dont know? `too stop start and too much huff and puff without any genuine quality tonight i was told they were good at Newcastle for long periods but Newcastle and Wigan are like chalk and cheese.

| Should we have a group of coaches to go out and coach the coaches of the junior teams?
I've previously been involved in coaching at junior level and whilst I've got a lot of experience in the game, it's not easy to get the message over to kids who sometimes just want to roll in the mud. Most junior coaches are the dad of someone in the team/club and are doing it without much formal education in how to coach. That's not a recipe for improving players to such a standard they are ready to come under the wing of a professional club.

I dont think this is a new thing to be honest its gone on for a number of years dads coaching their sons as no one else wants to do the job. Dont the club do nights throughout the year where club coaches come down? Im sure they used to but not 100% sure? That said said people on this forum are moaning about the coaches at the club so if they arnt good enough then whats the point in sending them to coach other coaches? Theres an argument that our better 18s weren't playing last night as its better for their development in the reserves im sure Wigan could argue the same. All the same it would have been nice to see Hall and Tindall tightening the edges up made for a more competitive game i feel.
