His contract signed end of 2016, stipulated the club could sack immediately without compensation if he did not win 40% of any ten matches.

Far from a 'mutual' decision from the look of McD's comments in response. Suprised at the timing but, even allowing for the injuries, we've looked rudderless for a long time now.

It's been a magnificent reign with silverware all over the place & McD has always been a model of integrity but I agree with the idea of 'its time for a change'

Has the stench of a “back me or sack me” episode. TBH I’m a bit shocked, it’s sad to see such a successful reign end in such circumstances, but Christ we have been poor this season.

Finally, some good news.

Brian McDermott commented, “I am extremely disappointed this has happened and obviously it is not a decision I agree with. I wish everyone at the club the best and my thoughts will be with the team on Sunday and through to the end of the season.”

So... Which coaches are available who are decent / realistic? Especially given that we're probably looking at having one in before the split.

I personally think we delve into the Aussie coach pool. Saves us getting left behind in terms of overseas signings by teams like Huddersfield!!

Cant say im dissapointed, deffinatly suprised. Only half the job done though, we need to get the new appointment right. Who we wanting? Id love Powell back and can see Furner being a strong possibility.

Tony Smith, Michael Maguire, Des Hasler, Geoff Toovey off the top of my head. No doubt a few others here in Aus as well would be interested. I think what GH needs to do is put someone in with a view to just this season, and worry about the longer term later. First issue is turning this year around.

Quite a shock that - sounds like a sacking in effect. I really think that with the benefit of hindsight McDermott himself will think he hung around too long. Whilst I've been highly critical of him, he deserved to leave with more dignity than this, but if he's just unwilling/able to change things then in the end GH had to do something, as on the field we're just imploding.

Not sure Michael McGuire is the right fit for us here and now given the lack of size in the pack but the local talent pool seems pretty dry. I don't think Powell is realistic, and Danny Ward at London is about as good as I can come up with.

Has to be temp for this season. The Aussises (except Smith) would require Visas, and by the time that is done we are well in. Hasler or Toovey would be perfect for us going forward though.

How would Tony Smith be more of the same, especially if it was just to the end of the season?

I've no idea which of those coaches I've mentioned would be a good fit. Moving forward a Maguire-style appointment for the longer term would be ideal, but like I say, the real issue is this year, and I hope we've got a better plan for the remainder of the season than just asking our assistants to take over.

I can see Smith for the rest of this season and two more. A large part of his role would be to help Burrow develop as a coach so he would be ready to take over. Smith then either moves upstairs or moves on when his contract is up.

Living in West Yorkshire for over 10 years has seen me adopt Leeds as a kind of 2nd Team.

Got to admit, was a little surprised to see this news, but do agree that change was needed. Brian Mc is a fantastic coach and I would jump at the chance for him to be the next Wigan Boss. The way he handles himself and the respect and integrity he operates with are perhaps the best tonic to counter Wanes approach at Wigan.

All good things must come to an end, 8 years is a fantastic run but often a fresh voice and new ideas are needed.

I'm sure Brian won't be out of work for long, and wish him every success in his next job.

He suddenly became the best ever coach at Leeds. In actual fact he coasted for many years on the back of a very successful squad built by Tony Smith. The last 3 years has seen the majority of this excellent squad leave or retire and their replacements have not been as good enough until at last this year, he has been found out. Just ask yourselves how many world class players left recently. Why is this Brian Macs fault? Poor recruitment.

FWIW Any time a club spends big off the field improving the stadia, they tend to do rubbish on the field. Happens in the boring round ball game as well.

Is Michael Maguire realistic given he's just took over tye kiwis? He'd be right up there with powell for me if there was any chance.
