I was thinking the same thing.
The longer planning drags on, the more likely it is that the North/Football stand will have to take priority to be finished for the 2019 Ashes, with the South Stand put on the back burner yet again.
Presumably Caddick will be doing the work so might be happy to hold off invoicing until the money from the land sale comes through.
If planning for the new houses gets refused altogether though, it may be that Caddick has to dip into his own pockets to pay for the rugby side of the shared stand doing and the South Stand continues to be held together with sticking plasters. |

The "call for support" on the website today quite telling. The two housing sites both have a huge amount of objections from the locals - particularly the Weetwood development.

GH did mention other councils I.E Leigh. Salford, Hull providing those clubs with newly built stadiums. it sounded like ' look if you are not going to let us generate our own money then how about helping us out financially like other councils have done for their clubs ?'

its out of order to try and blackmail supporters into pressing for planning consent in an area that for the majority wont have any connection with, it should be a local matter made on its merits not something that is supported just because of the club. Jus.t like the playing side it looks like theres no plan B as well

Really vital if you want to see the stadium redevelopment go ahead to support the two housing proposals mentioned below online.. (the ones ending OT). There are hundreds of objections and barely any support. If doesn't go ahead then there's no cash to develop the stadia...
Leeds Rhinos are asking supporters to back plans for the re-development of their famous Headingley Carnegie Stadium home and lodge their support with Leeds City Council ahead of a crucial planning decision by authorities.
The club issued plans for the re-development of both the rugby and cricket stadium back in February. The plans can only be delivered through the sale of two plots of land in Tingley and Weetwood, which will create over 200 new homes in the city with 100% of the net receipts from the sale of the site being invested in the improvements. This will backfire. Any support will be seen as being blindly provided because the club begged its support base rather than on the developments meit. I suspect the council will take a dim view and it could do more harm than good.

It's neither out of order nor is it blackmail to ask supporters to support the club.
Leeds City Council have been nothing but a hindrance to the only sports club in the city that can run at a profit and is consistently successful. Yet have shovelled millions of pounds at the cricket club along with bending over backwards to provide planning for that monstrosity of a cricket stand.
That is why Hetherington tied in the South Stand as instrumental to the North Stand going ahead, because of the Council.
Leeds will be very very very reluctant to let the North Stand redevelopment go ahead before the South Stand. It could cripple the club for years. |

Nonsense.
If the club's supporters don't back the application the council would definitely be able to point to that as being a reason not to approve the applications.
All the local people opposing the application would have nowhere to live themselves if those who lived in their locality before their houses were built had objected.
Whatever we think the council should & will determine the applications based on planning criteria. |

I would hope that the club had the class to let the planning process take its course without having to lean on fans to lobby on its behalf. |

Because the planning application should be able to stand on its own merits - getting a load of supports to write to the council will not change the technicalities of the application. The planners will either pass it on its merits/legalities or not. |

But surely that's the point, the stadium (cricket and rugby) is an asset to the whole city and therefore we are all directly impacted. Headingley is a world famous tourist attraction seen on TV by millions whom otherwise see nothing else of Leeds on TV... The better Headingley does the better the impact for our local economy... |

Exactly, hence the reason the city council lent YCCC £7m (or so) to buy the cricket ground from Caddick when they threatened to relocate to Durkar. |

Just be thankful you don't have our council. Who do nothing but on us and produce soundbites to say that they are not.
I always wonder if having a unhelpful council is a Yorkshire thing - nearly all the teams from the dark side seem to have managed to get themselves into shiny new stadia - Leigh, Salford, Wire, Saints etc - Meanwhile in Yorkshire - Wakey, Cas, Bradford, Leeds etc still playing in old fashioned grounds.

It is a crass effort by the club to try and mobilise what is in effect a bunch of clueless fans whose input will be an embarrassment in the vast majority of cases.
Tetley Field in Meanwood (bordering Weetwood) is green belt anyhow and a local beauty spot hosting precious local wildlife. I expect the council to reject the planning application in due course.
I've been on the lookout for volunteering and conservation projects which would interest me greatly. Think I'll make contact with the group who are organising the campaign against the planning application to see if I can be of any assistance.
Bollox to the club. It's a privately owned concern anyhow and can go do one.
