He looks like he's been doing a fair bit of comfort eating during his time on the sidelines. I was finding it hard to distinguish him from Ferres at times. I reckon he has one season left in him, but I think it would be a huge mistake to go into next season with him as the main playmaker.

Never thought we'd see a season where he played and didn't score but there is a growing possibility it could happen in 2016. Hope not.

Danny Mags has been an unbelievable servant for Leeds and is due all the respect and adulation that we give Sinny, Kylie and JP.

But like Sinny, Kylie and JP he should now a great ex player. A year too far this year IMO and should hang his boots up come season's end. We have a ready made replacement in Lilley and we look a much better side with the youngster marshalling the halves and Mags in the stand.

This has certainly been a year to forget for Danny. I simply can't accept the post London comments by Brian Mac that he has been good for us when he has played this, he hasn't.

My heart and my head tell me that he should call it a day now, but it saddens me to see derogatory terms like 'Brittle Bones' (used elsewhere on another thread) to describe him. Danny has been immense for our club and should always been given the respect he deserves for what he has done for us. For many years he has been a delight to watch and he has scored many vital tries for us when it really mattered in the big games.

Danny McGuire has been one of SL's greatest players - his contribution to Leeds' winning streak can never be under estimated.

He has come back from some terrible injuries but perhaps they have finally caught up with him? I hope he can one last season where he leaves on high not like this year.

He doesn't look fit and I question why is he playing - it could be that the coaching staff don't share the fans view of Lilley - I am not as sure as many on here.

He deserves a chance to put the effort in over the pre-season but his place in the team should be based on form and not reputation

Entirely agree with all of this. I wonder if Danny has had any thoughts he should have maybe bowed out on a high with the likes of Sinfield and Peacock. As it is he and Rob could see their careers fizzle out slowly in an anti-climatic season of struggle: 2017 looks like it could be a repeat of this even with the lucky acquisition of Chicko. JJB you would think will retire with some dignity still intact at the end of this season.

All season I have seen the oft repeated lament that Leeds have not had a full squad to select from; hence their terrible performances. Even with a full squad, however, the team still looks far from convincing. The defence issues simply do not seem to have been addressed; similarly the attacking ideas in the final 20. The coach seems to have "got away with it" and continues to do so. With the additional lack of any prospect of a worthwhile new signing I don't think I will be missing anything next season. Zzzzz.

Mcguire has been one of leeds greatest players. It's a shame to see his career fizzling out like this, but these things happen. His body now appears to be faultering, I'm sure thoughts of retirement have entered his head but I reckon he'll do next season to try and finish in better circumstances and leave us in a better position then call it a day.

It's a strange, for so long we've had that rock solid foundation and now all you can see on the horizon is loss. Mcguire burrow and JJb will be lost shortly to add to sinfield peacock and leuluai.

Like as been said earlier Danny has had some really bad injuries at crucial times for him and the club ,but credit to him he came back .He will be 34 when next season starts he has a decision to make

If he wants to finish out his contract next year then we should let him, same with Burrow and JJB.

We should buy an organising and kicking half to play along side him, and hopefully with a decent preseason and a change to some of the coaching staff, he will one again prove his doubters wrong, as he did when people on here wrote him off in 2011 and 2014

You do realise we are a salary capped sport? I am assuming not, judging by your second sentence. If wrong then I am very sure you don't pay money to go.

He has a year on his current deal i believe and deserves the chance to exit on his own terms at the end of that imo. he should step down as skipper though and focus on getting himself right for one last shot in 2017.

Achurch was on a lot and so is hardaker, loan hardaker out another year and bin Achurch, that frees up AT LEAST the 175,000 cap space required to make a marque signing, so we can effectively spend what we want on a new player

Also if we just paid out the last year on McGuire and Burrows contracts, it would count on our cap anyway. Are you saying we are better off with nothing?

Why do we need to buy an organising half back at all when we already have one in Lilley?

Leeds were playing in the lower league yesterday, Lilley still looked slow and missed as many tackles as he made (IMO - whether Opta agree or not) I still don't see what some fans are seeing in him.

I think Lilley can be developed into an organising half good enough for SL, I don't think turning the role over to him next year will immediately solve our problems.

In terms of his defence he has a habit of shooting the line, which could just be over enthusiasm. In terms of one on one tackling he's no worse than most halves in SL and a good deal better than some.

How many 19 year old HB's were good defenders from the off at that age in SL?

I am not saying we write off Lilly, but he still needs a couple more years to develop IMO.
Remember that Adam Reynolds Cooper Cronk and even Thurston didn't emerge as top quality controlling halves until they were 23/4

I think we should sign a half with a good kicking and organising game, to allow Mcguire Sutcliffe and our outside backs more time and space to create tries. (I am still quite annoyed that we didn't get Gale, who despite what Sky will tell you, has been a lot better that Sneyd and Gidly)

Lilly could then probably be sent on loan where he will get consistent game time at 7, ideally to a SL team or if not to a Championship team who will be in the Middle 8s

matty smith, luke walsh and michael dobson aren't that quick either tbh and none of them couldn't tackle a hot diner either
i would have loved either of walsh or dobson at our club this season

luke walsh is apparently manly bound which i find even more surprising judging by both of his deficiencies in his skill set that you have highlighted that lilley is also missing

i am not championing lilley nor am i writing lilley off just yet as he's still very young and is still on a steep learning curve trying to do a sinny type of game management
imo he could yet still prove to be a creative scrum half for us,especially if we get a decent 6 that compliments his skills

Are you comparing the pace of those three as they are now or as they were when they were twenty as Lilley will be in a fortnight?
Lilley has to be the slowest player I've seen pull on a first grade jersey for Leeds. The rest of his game at present doesn't even come close to compensating. Long term I don't see a future for him at Headingley, as soon as the next one rolls off the production line he'll be history and soon forgotten, IMO.

Danny won the Sunderland Trophy last GF and its not too long ago and because of that I think he will be still here next year

He and the rest of the team need to up their game considerably to be anything near to that performance next season.
We are rubbish this year with no signs of new players coming in to make it happen in 2017.

Body has let him down this year. Given that a lot of his game is based on the speed he does things, struggling to be fit has limited his effectiveness. It's all dependent on how fit he can get over the off season and who plays alongside him in the halves. If he's healthy and there are not too many expectations on him to "run" the game he could still be effective I think.
But reality is looking like he won't be able to get (or stay) healthy enough and he will be in a team with no hooker and no game managing half.
