| Genuine question (not sour grapes)...why didn't the video ref check the onside at the play of the ball?? Is he allowed?
No idea if the Cat's players were offside but they were about 2m at most from the Leeds try line when the ball was knocked on which would require some amazing line speed in the last min of a tough game.

Nope, not at all, just a question. I was amazed they didn't check but (as I already said) I have no idea whatsoever whether they were on or off side.

| If they were offside the ref would have penalised them.
Right?

No I don't, ever.
Doesn't answer my question though - why wasn't it checked?

| Perfectly valid question. The try was referred to the video ref. He didn't look at the onside. Had he done so Leeds would have been awarded the penalty for offside. They were miles offside as was clear from the post match analysis.
Meh, cup's in the bag, we're limping home and were never going to win it so good for Catalan.

Must be because he wasn't asked to check it. Now I know their have been times when refs look for something that they weren't originally asked but you know they can differ from week to week in how they use the VR.

The inconsistency is what irritates. Earlier in the season we had that disallowed try by Briscoe (for a shoulder barge...I really can't remember who it was against now) where the ref said "check everything" and they went frame by frame through a 20 odd pass, length of the field goal. I think that's the wrong approach but there should be a single consistent approach each season.

To be fair to the ref; when looking at the try after the game, they were onside.

Gareth above thought otherwise so it must have been marginal.
As I say though whether it was right isn't really my point - there is no possible way that the ref could have known with any confidence whether they were all onside (as he had to be watching the play of the ball), its the last play of a knock out game and whats to lose by checking?

True, and I've seen similar incidents to the Briscoe/Brough touching of shoulders since then when grubbers have gone in and obviously unnoticed.
Refs and consistency......it's almost at that point where we should forget about it ever being a reality.

| I thought this at the time of watching, but having seen the replay it looks I to me. They may be half a yard in front of the ref, but fine for me

Brough and therefore Huddersfield....and yes you're right. It's the inconsistency that infuriates.

We didn't deserve to win, don't get me wrong, but if that's correct there's something wrong with the refereeing/video ref system that needs to be rectified, and punishments delivered.

| Boo hoo. Because the RFL's favorite team never stand offside do they? Get a grip, Briscoe's individual error cost you the game and that's all there is too it. Accept it and move on.

| Williams was a yard in front of the ref and offside Henderson who I thought bossed the second half was a yard in front of him. Both offside which is how it goes sometimes but basically we were guilty of stupidity, with a minute and 22 seconds left it's four drives from dummy half or a short pass to a forward a a long kick down field and game over

Another one to misunderstand..... I think you will find we do accept it and there are no sour grapes.
It's something that needs to be made clear for next season: when and where [iexactly[/i the video ref can be/should be used.

No it's not that at all. I think every single Leeds fan on here admits we deservd to lose, it's just a question on the varying use of the VR. I mean what if the same incident happened at the other end with a Catalans player knocking on and it costing them victory? As they were the better team people would be questioning why offside wasn't checked and saying it's a conspicary to let the big club through.
The ref doesn't always ask for onside/offside when a try comes from a kick, but the VR always checks it to make sure.

Of the 6 defeats in a row we got into a winning position in 5 of them. We seem to struggle to finish a game off, for whatever reason

| Fatigue often made worse by an underuse of the bench. How many times have Leeds lost halftime leads this season? Used to be a rare event but not anymore or so it seems to me.
The Catalan defensive line were onside to the try-scorer Williams although beyond him Henderson and especially Elima were off but still would be a harsh call and as Matt said there was an element of a dummy play the ball by Hardaker.
That said Duport at marker wasn't remotely square and surprised Bentham didn't notice let alone Silverwood in the box.

| Do you think there is any mileage in adopting the "kick and clap" brigades direction to the TMO
1. Try -yes or no
2. Is there any reason I can not award a try
They are the only questions the on field ref can ask I believe
