| We may do but it would be a massive gamble vs Wigan this week & Cas next when there will be other less risky options.
It would be most unlike McDermott to risk the lad in such big games unless he had no alternative.

I see no harm using him from the bench.Mcdermott has a habbit of not using one of the subs anyway, especially in big games, and even if all are used one sub will get very little game time like Clarkson and his 8 minute stint at the weekend.

Well, there was Jimmy Keinhorst at Wembley, although perhaps a lesson has been learnt there.
Put Ward in with first team training, get him used to his teammates and plays from acting-half. It'll take a couple of weeks for him to get comfortable with that whatever his talent. I'm sure he'll be used in the next couple of months but probably not just yet.

| Anyone looked at the fixtures for the next 6/7 games? If you're looking for an easy game to throw this lad in then you'll be waiting until the June 22nd. Or hope we get a favoured CC draw ( we're not wigan)

| I do hope Ward isn't going to turn out to be the next Richard Gunn or Vince Fawcett... such is the level of expectation being heaped on the young lad.

We are not Wigan; 'we are Leeds, we are Leeds, we are Leeds'.
Incidentally, maybe now the Leigh game. Is he actually any good at all? I've only ever heard his name on these boards, but Rob Burrow seems to be bigging him up as much as most people here are!

Rob Burrow has to be seen to flying the Rhinos flag.
With our hooker out injured (Aiton) and our scrum half playing hooker also injured, Burrow is not going to highlight any weakness in our squad.

Well, no, this is true. But he is name-dropping a specific young player rather than 'we have a big enough and a skilled enough squad to see the likes of Sinfield (or x or y) slot in and do a good job'.

| Maybe we should give him a chance these next few games coming up. There's enough experience on the field to help him through and even if it's only 20 minutes, it will show whether the hype is worth it or not.

| No way, it's far too an important position to put Ward there. Sinfield will do a sound job there simply because of his playing experience. Ward seems to be at a stage where he can gain game time from the bench. Mac has to learn from the disaster of playing Ward as a starting centre. Experienced players like Ablett and Sinfield can slot into different positions and do a good job; Ward is still fairly inexperienced as far as SL is concerned. Give him time.

| I think some are confusing Robbie Ward and Stevie Ward.
R.Ward imo is worth a chance he has consistently performed well for our u19's over the last couple of years that's not hype its my opinion after seeing him play many games.
Admittedly the run of fixtures is tough but at some point these lads need testing i'm not saying he should start or do 40 minutes+ but give the lad a chance his form has warrants it.

| Should at least get him in the 19 man squad even if he doesn't make the 17. Then at least he'll have had several weeks around the first team before giving him a try in some of games in mid June onwards (plus the Leigh game).

Richard Gunn was the best Captain the A team ever had.
As for VF, I only ever remember expecting him to be $h!te. He fulfilled all his potential as far as I was concerned.
If we're talking about Stevie Ward, he has a way to go. Has some good parts to his game, I suspect he will be the sort of player (if he does succeed) who we will not even notice becoming a crucial part of the team. A little bit like JJB and Ablett did.

Played more times for the 'A' team than Paul Fletcher and Norman Francis combined didn't he? Back in the day when Friday night RL at Headingley was enjoyable

I remember a photo of him in the YEP the day he signed forms for Leeds. Stood alongside Leeds skipper Peter Tunks IIRC. I also recall he was once out injured because he'd spilt a pan of boiling chip fat all over his arm.

Played cricket against VF a couple of times. Intimidating sight seeing him come in to bowl off a long run, less intimidating after the ball left his hand. Similar at rugby, as it turned out.

I'm surprised he got to the end of his run up with the ball still in his hand. Now you're going to tell me he fielded in the slips

| Vince Fawcett was typical of the big kid for his age that plays rugby because of where he comes from, not because of his talent or ability.
I seem to remember Dougie asking if he had thumbs after a very short appearance at HKR one year....
