The quote from GH indicates there could be some clause to re sign him.

If that's the case, it is to be hoped that Watson hasn't been COHERSED into agreeing to that clause.

Good move all round I suspect. Leeds no longer have to pay for his development ( as he would have probably been dual reg again next year). He moves over so others can have a go. And Leeds can call on him if things get bad with injuries.

Big signing for Hunslet. I bet there are some clubs wishing they had moved quicker. But a contract is only a starting point for negotiation, so he could move again if a SL club come calling; and Hunslet need the money too.

I wish the lad well he had some bad luck with a serious knee injury when he was on the verge of a 1st team call up and when he finally got his fitness and form back we had earmarked Hardaker for the 1 shirt.
IF he maintains his form and lives up to his earlier potential i wouldn't be surprised to see him back in SL.

It does though, in the laws of the game.

Hunselt hold his contract for 18 months, and therefore he is tied to them. Leeds to all intents and purposes control Hunslet now, so therefore Watson's contract is mearly a Leeds one under another umbrella.

Leeds have first choice on Hunslet players, which would include Watson. Therefore if he succeeds and Leeds want to sign him, then Hunslet will do business. Of course the player also needs to want to return. To add to that, Leeds can sign Hunslet players on loan also if it was a short term thing needed.

In the laws of the game, Hunslet and Leeds are still separate clubs, no matter what 'intents and purposes' you think Leeds might have.

Jimmy Watson is no more a Leeds player than Gareth Ellis is.

Except that in the real world he is.

Watson cannot move freely between Hunslet and Leeds. Dual registration only permits SL players to play for Championship/Championship One clubs, not vice versa.

He is not on dual registration.

The only way he could play for Leeds would be if Hunslet allowed him to go to Leeds on loan at some point in the future.

Given that he's been a regular fixture in their side when fit, I can't see them letting him go out on loan anywhere.

So explain how he is still effectively a Leeds player?
