| Forget about whether we win trophies or not, with this season an the past 2 seasons, I seriously question how much longer people will throw their money at this club.
I'm a season ticket holder, yet this year, I have missed more home games than ever, as I'm really not enjoying watching us play - so when I've had a better offer, I've missed matches. In 30 years of watching us, until this season, I have never chosen anything over a Leeds game. Yet this season I find I am, and I've already paid for my season ticket, so I can only assume you're average payer on the gate must be thinking the same.
Tonight has cost me near on £100 to take the Mrs to watch another amateurish performance. Now I'm not short of cash, but even I'm struggling to justify paying to go watch completely un-entertaining rugby.
If the players only wanna turn up for the last quarter of a season (as evidenced in a Danny McGuire tweet today), then why should the fans bother turning up and paying for the first three quarters of the season.
It won't be long until people find something more enjoyable to spend their hard earned on. I'd like to say I wont be buying a season ticket next year, I'll wait till half way through the season and get a half season ticket instead - but I'm a mug and have nowt better to spend my money on - could totally understand why some people won't bother anymore though.
These past couple of seasons have not been good value for money, regardless of the awesome end to last year. I pay I be entertained weekly, not for 4 or 5 nights a year.

| I'd be all for an announcement over the weekend that the current Top 8 play-off system is to be replaced with a Top 5 playoff system with immediate effect. It's not as if shifting the goalposts mid-season has never happened before in RL administrative circles.
That'll make things more interesting for the rest of the season, thus making it extremely difficult even for this crummy Leeds side to sit on their collective arrises whilst churning out the usual crap regular season performances in the comforting knowledge they are still going to qualify and be rewarded with a home game.
In their current position, they'd then have to get off their collective arrises and get serious [unow[/u (not later) in order to ensure themselves a Top 5 spot - even allowing for all that whipping boy opposition rabble they've yet to play.
Unfortunately, that ain't gonna happen and they'll continue to toss it off at no discernible risk for the rest of the regular season while players like McGuire concentrate on turning up to target the weak.

| I guess i'm in a minority and it must just be the way i approach things but i can honestly say that no matter how bad the result or performance i've never once thought afterwards about the financial side of following Leeds Rhinos, well not in a negative way anyway, because i have thought about the times i've paid around only £30 for a Grand Final ticket to see the 5 times we've won it as being some of the best money i've spent. If we lose i'm gutted because we lost, i couldn't give a damn about £20.

Great post. Keep an eye on the above posters and see what they post if you beat Wigan in the Semi. Now I'm not a mind reader but I think it will go something like this; best club in the world..... That's why we're champions and none of the bloody waste of money will be mentioned. Whilst I'm not calling them glory hunters as posters have stated they have been going for 30 years etc but spare a thought for others who have never had any silver in years.

Agree totally never thought of it as a waste of money. Don't know if that's because I am fairly lucky with my finances. If I was in a different financial position I may view things differently.
As far as the current Leeds team is concerned I have seen and paid to see alot worse teams than this current one

Couldn't be further from the truth. Obviously yes the finals are a great experience and do somewhat make up for the dross season, but in hard financial times I can see people starting to avoid the early season games.
My point is that when only 1 team is d about the result, it's not entertaining - and people are generally paying their money to be entertained. I wouldn't be particularly bothered if we lost more than we won, provided I was enjoying watching the rugby and could see the players were putting in the effort. But the truth is, they are coasting for three quarters of the season and not putting in the required effort at training or game day - Mcguires tweet to some wind up merchant about only playing when it matters shows that this attitude is clearly in the team.

Luckily I'm the same with money, and I too have spent a fortune watching some rubbish in the eighties and nineties - but even in our worst days, you knew they weren't just coasting. Yes they were useless at times, but it wasn't through a complacent, 'leave it till it matters' attitude. That's what I think is wrong.
All I'm saying is that for those that are counting the pennies, I could easily see them finding something more entertaining to spend their money on between February and August.

You know i'd quite like that. Top 5 is still achievable for us, but we'd really need to step it up and it'd add some real intensity and meaning to games like wakefield and london etc.

Agreed,
Unfortunately fans are fickle, poor performances coincides with a drop in crowds, this is how it will always be.
For me and a lot of others I suspect it is a religion, a way of life. And its times like these where support is really tested.

| Agree totally - the current top 8 system is allowing mediocrity, and enables Leeds to coast through the season at a low intensity. A top 5 system, with the current strength in the league would make things much more competitive throughout the season.

I'd like to blame the players for their [i'couldn't care less about the regular season'[/i attitude (as confirmed by McGuire on twitter) but it's not really their fault. Anyone offered free passes to finals without having to earn them are naturally going to accept those free gifts.

I somehow doubt Leeds fan were complaining when we put 70 past Wigan and Saints in games at Headingley in the mid 2000's. Clearly one only team were competing on those days yet i doubt anyone on here was saying it was a waste of money then. So clearly you are bothered when we lose instead of win.

| I buy a season ticket because I enjoy supporting the team and watching rugby league.
As fans we've been very lucky to witness one of the most successfull periods in the club's history, that can't last forever.

Where are these vast numbers that go only to the play-off games?
Take a good look at the attendances of all play-off games, they are well down on the respective league games. Too many fans do not turn up the play-offs. In Oz the playoffs are the culmination of the season, over here they are poorly attended with very little atmosphere (with the exception of Warrington game last season - it still hurts you Wire fans that you blew it big time last year!)

I have an account but have never been able to get my head around how it works so it lays dormant.
Bearing in mind the above it's possible a certain Leeds scrum-half said this 15 hours ago: =#0000BFI'll just play when it matters again like last year when we tore you apart In play offs. Do one!
It appears that message was in a conversation with a Huddersfield fan and it's been excused as banter. Twitter does my melon in man.
