I'd imagine that Smith is in as cover for Webb who was reported to be too ill to appear as planned at the RL world cup launch when the Kiwis were revealed as the team to be based in Leeds.

You've got the timing wrong for the walk to the stadium btw. It's about a five minute walk from the Chalon Way car park (multi storey, closest to the ground). It'll be a 15 minute walk back though as it takes a little time for the thousands of fans to get over the Saints Way bridge.

The car park furthest from the stadium creates about a 15 minute walk but unless a driver knows St Helens town centre they are more likely to get to the Chalon Way car park.

Saintsfan, is there a decent pub outside the ground, or will we have to wait till we're inside to get a drink?

There is one at the ground, The Founders Bar, which is open early till late on match nights. It's a public bar. It would be good if Saints put tables and chairs outdoors if the weather is as nice as it is today.

Other than that there is a Wetherspoons opposite the Chalon Way car park (very busy match nights) plus a number of other pubs around the town centre area. If you want specific directions to a couple of those let me know.

Hard to say, but I know a number of people (myself included) who are cashing in their 'free away travel' voucher, which each season ticket holder got, for this match. I think the turnout might be surprisingly good.

The sun is cracking the flags in Merseyside today, have a safe journey over and lets hope its a cracker.

Word of warning, if travelling by car or coach avoid the East Lancs Road as Windle Island junction is closed to traffic. M62 is best route anyway.

If there is anyone who likes their real ale The Phoenix in the town centre is a good choice, CAMRA pub. Usually has 6-8 cask ales to select from at around £2.20 a pint. An easy 10 minute stroll to Langtree Park. Quite a few of us made it our new pre match pub and easy to get seved unnlike the pubs nearer the ground. Its on Canal Street near the main town centre car parks. Be good to see some opposition fans for a healthy chat.
