Beautiful day here in Leeds, cold but not a cloud in sight. Pitch has been covered, but they'll be coming off as the temperature gets above freezing. Will be like the good old days tonight.

I wouldnt be surprised if the covers stayed on until 7.30 as it's meant to be well below freezing again come kick off.

| Club Website says:
The pitch has been covered each night for over three weeks however temperatures dipped as low as -7 overnight to present a major test for the club's groundstaff. However, the work carried out during the week has help alleviate the problems presented by the low temperatures and the pitch is playable.
The front sheets will remain on the pitch until just before kick off as temperatures will begin to dip again this evening with both teams set to warm up in the in goal areas.
Commenting on the pitch, Head Groundsman Jason Booth said, "The team have done a great job this week. Every day we have taken the sheets off the pitch and worked on the pitch to get the moisture out of it. That has certainly helped us last night when the temperatures fell to their lowest point of the week."

The problem this time of year is obviously the short days and how low the sun is. Where the pitch isn't shaded there'll be a few hours sunshine to warm the ground through, but like you say, it's back down to freezing by 6pm. The latest forecast says it'll only reach -1 during gametime so the HKR fans won't need to start camp fires on the western Terrace.

There's only 1 place I have ever felt colder than being in the golf stand and that was Hilton Park a few years back when Leigh were in SL. Im sure that was the middle of summer too!

| Coldest match I remember attending was Saints v Sydney Roosters in the 2003 World Club Challenge at Bolton. Even the brass monkeys were crying that night.

Yeah, I was in that corner too. Bloody awful place with its own climate
Saying that, the coldest game I remember going to properly was Leeds Tykes vs Fiji (god knows why they were playing) on our Birthday quite a few years back. It was -2 when I we got out of the car and I remember getting a burger at HT and being able to feel it. I dont care about ridicule tonight... Im wearing gloves godamnit!

| There was a cup tie at Halifax in the late 80's where 1/4 of the pitch was frozen like glass - the players just avoided it. We had a snowball fight at half time with the Fax fans - that was pretty baltic. Coldest I've ever been though was one night at Post Office Road, my brain thought my body had dropped off.

I was at that game. We had to break the gates down to get in. Billy Boston scored two seventy five yarders (non of this metric stuff). Leeds won 13 - 11, Dave Bolton (it may have been Don Platt) broke his leg (no subs then) and Eric Ashton missed a kick to draw the game.
