| From Yorkshire Post website..
Quote Champions Leeds Rhinos, meanwhile, could make a move for Sale Sharks centre Iain Thornley.
The former Wigan Warriors youngster, 20, is already on a season-long loan at Championship club Leeds Carnegie, impressing with four tries in 12 games so far.
Ex-England Academy international Thornley left Wigan for Sale on a three-year deal only last summer hoping to follow in the footsteps of another who made such a move – Jason Robinson – but is yet to establish himself, playing just seven Premiership matches before being loaned to Headingley.
The Yorkshire Post understands Rhinos are interested in his services as they look to bolster their three-quarter line for 2012.'"

Is Thornley a better player than the Rhinos already have? The last sentence of the article is interesting in that allegedly the Rhinos are looking to bolster their backs for next season. Obviously Brian McD is wanting to strengthen in this area.

| Hopefully this is a sign of things to come. Maybe Joel Tomkins will end up been loaned at Leeds Carnegie if he starts performing badly for Saracens.

| at the moment hardaker is yet to have a full season @ centre , watkins is yet to finish one and smith couldn't run one last year so another proper centre avoids playing second rows there

How good a player is Thornley and is he better than Watkins, Hardaker etc? It apppears that Rhinos management think we need some addition to the threequarters but the new signing should be of the right quality. I assume we woul have to pay Sale a transfer fee?
Gary H is going to Australia next month and it would be interesting to know which player areas he is looking at.

I would agree......but unless the new addition is exceptional/Ingliss then Watkins and Hardaker should be given every opportunity to stake their claims as starting centres. Their 2012 squad numbers do indicate that this echoes the club's sentiments too.

| I should imagine that if we made a signing like this, it would be to provide initially back-up to Watkins and Hardaker (you have to have more than two centres available) and hopefully subsequently competition if he's up to it.

And Delaney.
Both can do a perfectly good job there, but I think both are better used in the pack, and if a suitable, affordable out-and-out centre could be found, that would be better IMO.

For centres the full set would be:
Zak Hardaker, Kallum Watkins, Lee Smith, Ben Jones-Bishop, Brett Delaney, Carl Ablett, Jamie Jones-Buchanan.

As "proven" centres, I appreciate that you can define "proven" in a variety of ways, but how many senior grade matches have BJB and JJB played at centre? I can't remember JJB ever playing there. Willie Poching played about 60 minutes of a win at Odsal as a centre once, but I wouldn't have regarded him as suitable squad cover for the position.

Didn't JJB play centre in the home game against Cas when we were missing about 18 players, mainly due to the international call up's?
