| Watkins included in the squad! Not sure I would select him, but depends how fitness and how he has gone in training. For me team will be unchanged for the final

The right call imo ,Gaskell and Lomax more than deserve theri shirts at 6 and 7 and the outside backs all desrve theirs so it's a logical call imo plus he is the GF hide 'n' seek champ.

Pryce could have replaced Gary Wheeler on the bench. He did nothing on Saturday.

| Interesting that only 2 of the to-be champions 38 were thought to be of good enough quality to be named in the "dream team".

Outstanding in a few Grand Finals certainly when he was awarded the Harry Sunderland Trophy in 2005 and in his first season at Saints in 2006 he was equally good.
So it is a big call IMO and kind of makes your quote above rather silly.
He is a player that opposing fans love to hate but still a class act and as proven before can make a big impact on big games.

It's actually your quote that's rather silly. You think leaving out a player who's played 8 games all season and as you admit who's best days were 6 years ago is a big call? I think that's about the easiest call Royce Simmons has had to make all season.
A much harder decision will be whether to have Ashurst or Wheeler on the bench.

I was referring to the part where he refers to Leon Pryce being the GF hide and seek champ. Well on the years I stated he was on the winning side so a 'champ' and he certainly did not achieve that from hiding as he had outstanding games (on the back of dominent packs though in 2005 he was actually on the wing).
As for being 6 years past his best it's all about opinions but he certainly has had a few very good seasons over that period at St Helens as I am sure most Saints fans would back up. He may not have performed well in the last 4 grand finals but as any rugby fan knows your halfbacks can only perform if your pack gives you some kind of platform and the St Helens pack has been second best on every occassion the last 4 finals.
The one thing I will agree with you on is he has only played 8 games this season and therefore there would be a certain amount of risk in selecting him but easiest call Simmons has had to make all season??? Was he not originally in the 17 last week and did his replacement actually get a minute on the pitch??

So he did well 5yrs ago and that makes him a "class act" now does it?
lets also get one thing straight that strong pack he played behind in 05 was reinforced by breaking the cap signing Morley.
Where did this "class act" go in 07,08,09 and more recently last year ?
Like i said the GF hide 'n' seek champ don't get so defensive Leon you USED to be decent but that's long gone.
Simmons would be a complete fool to drop Gaskell or Lomax for Mr "you ain't seen me ........right".

It's a fact that Morley took Bradford over the cap I don't dispute that. Anybody with a knowlege of Rugby League will tell you half backs and indeed all backs only have the chance to go well if your pack lays some kind of platform. Pure and simple Saints haven't in the last 4 finals in fact they were well and truly bruised up firstly by Leeds and then Wigan last year. If your talking about people not turning up in the last 4 Grand Finals then James Graham is your man for me.
Simmons would be daft to drop Gaskell or Lomax never once have I said anything contrary to that however he would have taken his place on the bench last week if not for a last minute illness. Lomax and Gaskell still remain inexperienced in the big games as is Wheeler so would personally have had Pryce on the bench.

| You can see the best and worst of Gaskell in such a short space of time on the rugby field.
Then factor in this will be the biggest game of his life, well that's pressure.......

| IF Watkins is fully fit you pick him every time. He may have been almost there for a couple of weeks and been training the house down. Saying thar, he could surprise a few and pick both. Leave Ali and Weller/Clarkson out. Abbo back to the 12/13 position.
It would offer us a better attacking option on both sides.
