| If you don't play like that you play nsw cup! He's obviously out to impress and giving it everything in attack and defence.

| I know it's a bit off topic but I have a sneaky feeling Graham will be the first UK player to do a tronc/Eastwood/orford! Just don't think he will hack it down here after living his life in that $hit hole bubble!

If he lives in Canterbury the only change he'll have is the weather.

| Graham is looking a bit off the pace this season at Saints. Playing with injuries (as I imagine he does most weeks) must take a toll and perhaps it's caught up with him.
Of course he may just be winging it ready to hit the ground running at the Doggies next season.

Brian Carney say on luke
I was probably as sceptical as anybody about Luke Burgess success in the NRL. He was struggling in the Leeds side and I don't think anyone had him in the top ten props in Super League and that is being kind. I had question marks about his decision to go down under and I thought it was by in large driven by the fact that his brother Sam was at Sydney. However once he had signed it was up to him to produce the goods. If anyone saw South Sydney's superb win against reigning champions St George Illawarra, well Luke Burgess was one of the stand out players. He was immense in that game and he has been pretty good in all the games so far and I tip my hat to him. Good on him.

| I imagine that for now he's been made to feel at home and valued within the club.
Some players (perhaps all players) need that and Burgess always had the air of someone constantly needing to prove himself at Headingley when in reality he has been worthy of his place since Scruton upped and left for pastures new.

| The souths parra game just finished! Burgess was very good again made a 30 meter brake down the right touch line drew the fullback and put the souths fullback (Merritt) in for his 4th try.

| It was actually Merritt's 5th try
Thought Luke was very good today 2nd most carries in the team and 2nd most metres in the team (fullback was 1st and scored 5 tries), the Australian style of play seems to suit his play and was funny when he put Hayne on his and he didn't like it too much

If that's truly how he feels, then he's a big soft lad who needs to grow up.
He'd dropped into the comfort zone at Leeds IMO. As Brian Carney says, he wouldn't have been in anyone's list of the top ten props in the competition before his move. That he's thriving with Souths says more about the supposed "gulf" in standards between SL and the NRL than anything else.
IMO, I'm not sure the Bulldogs know what they're getting with Graham. He'll work his socks off for you every week, but he's not going to run around smashing people in defence or making massive line breaks. One of the most overrated players in SL based on this season's performances.

He's having to prove himself now and only got the chance because of injuries. Everyone expected him to play NSW cup all year and maybe make a push next year but what he has done is take the opportunity given to him with 2 hands and as of yet, hasn't looked back.
As of yet I havent seen the game but did he play 1 big 40 minute spell again with the HT break in between? Thats how he has been used to date and it seems to be working well for him.

It certainly does.
Any English player exposed to the standards of the NRL each week ought to be an automatic choice in the international side. The more the merrier.
It works for NZ.

Indeed he was. Averaging 112 metres a game before his injury and was never really picked again. Look at Ouzo's spreadsheet and by his reckoning Burgess was our best prop this season.

Came on after about 25 mins and was on at the end.
So did 15, then 10 to 15 mins brake then 40(I think)

| Can't say I'm suprised to be honest. He was maturing into a great prop before Mc dropped him and was the best prop in the squad by a mile. He has a good work rate, solid defense, a decent offload game and really goes forward. Letting him go is one of the worst recruitment decsions Leeds have made in recent times. I've always thought he had the potential to play for England, and this season he has proved that. He's still only 24.

It seems foolish in cutting short his contract of course in term of our options this year.
But he was never going to stay after this year.

| bloodbath's right - Leeds had no choice after this season, but it does seem poor that we didn't manage him better this year (although his attitude may well have been the problem).
Sadly swiftcorn is also right - even his limited exposure to the NRL should mean Burgess is a strong possibility for England at the end of the year.
FWIW I think Graham needs to go right back to basics if he wants to go well in the NRL. I doubt very much that the Bulldogs want a massive, slow moving stand off. What they want is a workaholic prop. He certainly won't be reiled on in the same way as he has been at Sts, so hopefully he won't have to play whilst injured or for ridiculously long stints.

I think Graham going to the Bulldogs is best thing that could happen for him. He needs to get away from carrying the Saints pack or attempting to carry as it is these days. The bloke is shot. He needs a good pre season which SL doesn't offer.
