Earlier today there was a huge bang . It sounded like somebody had thrown one of our wheelie bins against the door . Have asked around , and apparently it was a car exploding up on Church Lane at Farnley . Have been told that it wasn't just a car on fire that went bang , but that the car has actually been blown apart like it had a bomb inside it .
Police have been swarming the area since the bang .
Anyone know any more than I do about it ?

I'm in Farnley about 1/2 a mile away and it fair old shook the house, everyone out on the street wondering what it was. Have heard the same but no more than the OP

Brief local TV news said car contained gas canisters but was it as loud as Giants hitting the buffers?

As some of you may gather from my forum name I live in New Farnley!

The bang was just around the corner from out house, I would say less than 100 metres, and that thing was huge! There is apparently one of the cars doors on our neighbours ROOF!

We are now back in the house but about 12 of our neighbours will not be allowed back in til the morning and are staying with friends around the area.

On a more positive note New Farnley Cricket Club have had a cracking day at the bar!

I just walked the dog up the hill and around the park . Police stopped me near the church as I exited Farnley Park .. Said there was a threat of a further explosion . Under orders to arrest anyone who attempts to enter the cordoned off area . Apparently there is a missing conservatory , a missing wall , and a BMW in bits . According to the coppers I spoke to .

There are bits of the BMW on the roofs . It isn't a full car sat on the top of a house .

Seen the pictures on telly news tonight . Not a lot left of the car . Difficult to tell what model of BMW it is . But am guessing it was a posh/fast one going by the wheels , and the way the aluminium body panels have melted . Doubt a regular , run of the mill , model would have so many aluminium panels .

On the news this morning 2 arrested. Said it was a stolen car so I assume they tourched it and it had some canisters inside it?

Gipton is wonderful green village. It looks fantastic on Google Earth, lots of trees and fields. A large part of it was once a farm and when my Mum was little it was like the place where the Archers live. I had an idylic childhood there myself, we would roam the fields and make fires, hunt rabbits and build igloos in the winter. I couldn't have been more blessed if I'd grown up in rural Oxfordshire with millionaires for parents.
