| Wasn't as bad as first sight. It was fairly obvious he was trying to kick the ball, was a fraction late.

But how many incidents have we seen in recent years that have been much worse than that where a player has remained on the field and put on report?
I didnt think that it was malicious and looked more of a very desperate attempt to kick the ball.
However i do agree that he had to send him off.

| I thought that Bryant's attack to Smith's jaw looked worse, that is only based on me seeing at real speed from my seat in the Carnegie Stand. But Cahill still deserved to go, what was good was seeing him apologise immediatey after the incident to Burrow.
I've now watched a re-run of the game. Bryant's upper arm made contact with Smith's head but it wasn't the point of the elbow, so although I don't like to see that I don't believe he'll get banned.
Cahill was just stupid, 1 game ban that's all, not malicious. Cost them any hope of the tie too, so that's his biggest punishment.

| Actually didn't think it deserved a red, he was sprinting for the ball, was a bit over excited and tried to kick the ball, but was a fraction to late and caught the player.
See players getting kicked all the time when they dive onto balls.

| I don't think it was malicious, but the carelessness of it was what made it dangerous so it was a sending off offence. We do seem to be seeing more red cards this year in general. Would be interesting to see if anyone has the stats on it.

| It doesn't matter how much of a fraction late it was Burrow had the ball in his hands so cahill had no excuse to swing the boot and i also thought Bryant deserved to see Red for the Elbow on Smithy.

| I can understand why he was sent off, and it looked worse on first viewing, but it wasn't as dangerous as the elbow to Smith, or any number of offences that only get penalties. I think he got sent off because it was such an unusual offence to see on the Rugby field (it was effectively a mistimed, around the man, football tackle) rather than for the severity of it.

| deserved a red card for me even after seeing it on the tv. it was a professional foul. OK it may not have been malicious and ive seen footballers stretchered off for less but the main point is that it could have caused serious injury.
OK I know head highs can cause injuries etc but a tackle is a tackle. Kicking out like what was done is not part and parcel of the game though so it was deemed a dangerous act that was uncalled for

Because Harris has played in a Leeds shirt and a player in a Leeds shirt wouldn't have been sent off for it.

| I thought Hep was awesome before that moment of madness too. Certainly put himself about a lot.
As far as red cards go. In SL the last 5 years looks as follows:
2011: 5 (half a season)
2010: 11
2009: 3
2008: 13
2007: 8

| Wasn't malicious IMO as he was trying to hack the ball on but if the ref viewed it as an attempted trip he has to show him red. Thought McDermott was over the top with his comments at end about it. Good result for Leeds though and into hat for next round, just wonder at what cost though, didn't look good for young Clarkson and McGuire and Webb didn't come back

| Webb had a dead leg and McGuire had a pulled quad. Both not overly serious. Probably a few weeks out at most. Clarkson's looked worse though which is a shame for the lad because he's established himself as a 1st teamer at Leeds now and never stops working. Pretty dodgy tackling technique that led to the injury though.

Does that include today's sending off?
IIRC we've had:
1. Godwin sent off by Alibert for punching
2. J. Tomkins sent off by Ganson for dangerous contact - elbow
3. Bailey sent off by Thaler for fighting
4. O'Donnell sent off by Thaler for fighting
5. Cahill sent off by Ganson for dangerous contact/kicking
I'd put more than a few quid on Ganson flashing the most reds over the last 5 seasons. Thaler and Smith wouldn't be far behind either.

No, this is just SL only. The RFL dont seem to do stats so it's the only info I could find but still fairly relevant.

| No doubt about it that it was a sending off. I don't know what his intension's were and neither does anyone else but you can't swing the boot and kick at the ball carrier.
Got to credit Ganson, he is an attention seeking ar$ehole but at least he has a pair of bollox unlike most refs and touch judges.

Hmmmm trying to think which one I've missed. I seem to recall Ryan Boyle being dismissed at some point.

| My two penny's worth... deserved to be a sending off as it was potentially dangerous. He will only get 1 game (two at the most) as there was no malice. Just stupidity.

Nope (at least I don't think so) re Ryan Boyle.
The one you've missed is Sean Long's flying elbow V Castleford in the game that cost Richard Agar £3K minimum this week.

| As fouls go, I'd give it 2/10. Meat & drink to a ref like Ganson, particularly when televised.
