The most naturally gifted player ever to hold a club has died today.

Sport needs characters players who literally lead the sport into new territory through their extraordinary ability and charisma. Seve was one such sportsman - like Ali, Pele etc a one off.

In any sport there are players who make the difficult seem routine and the impossible possible - Seve was such a player. Much is made - quite rightly - Michelson's magic around the greens but if you want to see a true master at work get some old film of Seve. Unlike Phil he only had one sand wedge to fashion all that magic.

For me watching the best sport is about observing the small bits of magic they can produce that are beyond the imagination/ability of mere mortals - Seve used to do this regularly.

The back nine against Tom Kite in the Ryder Cup at the Belfry is unforgettable - 3 down 9 to play in a must win game against the toughest American. His tee shot to the 14th give Allis the opportunity for the immortal "If you are ever in jam!!"

Whilst he may not have won the majors Woods has - his reputation and status in the game is on a different level, his ability to behave with grace and humility is something today's arrogant players would do well to copy.

The term legend is banded about far too much - but Seve you were a legend and the world is worse place for you no longer being here.

A charismatic and endearing individual who will be sadly missed. RIP Seve

There are certain people who radiate positive emotions, Seve was certainly one of those people and he had such immense talent to go with that special gift. A sad day for golf and sport in general. RIP.

A lovely man who I met once when he played in a tournament at Moortown (or possibly Sandmoor?). He was such a charmer and will be sadly missed. RIP Seve. Many will be sad to lose you.

A horse called Ballesteros runs in the 2.30 at Haydock, has to be worth a quid or two!

Truly unique and gifted golfer who influenced the rise of European Golf more than any other. I was living/working in Madrid in the late 70's and sat next to him on a flight back to the UK in 1979. It was just before he won his first Masters and just after he had won his first Open. He was modest and polite came over as a really nice guy. A sad loss.

Indeed, such a shame to lose a genuine "face" of the game.
