Did anyone else get a parking ticket during last night's match ?

We parked in St Michaels Court Headingley (behind Subway) where we have parked on and off for the last nine years.

Ticket for £100 reduced to £60 if paid within 14 days - BARSTEWARDS !!!

Might sound like a daft question but were you parked illegally?

We parked on St Michaels Lane just above the ticket office last night . Didn't get a parking ticket because our car is too new for them



Never had any problems with tickets wherever we have parked around Headingley .

My grievance is that we have parked their for nine years and now suddenly we get a ticket.

I was merely whether anyone else had encountered the same problem - NOT PROBEM !!

Id I could park illegally for 9 years in the same spot, I'd be happy to pay for a ticket or two occasionally.

The real question you should be asking yourself is how do you feel about a private company intimidating you with legal threats to pay them several hundred pounds for doing something that is not illegal ?


If you leave your address in your next post I'll gladly threaten you with lots of nasty letters in the hope that you'll pay me the sum of £270 for doing nothing at all, I'll even reduce it to £220 as a "final gesture" in my fifth letter to you when it looks as though you are going to ignore all of my empty threats.

The chances are that the OP hasn't parked "illegally". The likelihood is that they have merely failed to adhere to some spurious and misleading term imposed at the whim of a private parking company. The two things are very different.

I'd be telling them to do one and inviting them to challenge my stubbornness in court (which they won't). Then again, that's just me.

If the OP hasn't done anything illegal in parking where he did, then presumably he can call the police to get the clamp removed, as removing it himself with Bolt Cutters could leave him open to prosecution for criminal damage?

What would happen if he was to call the police rather than pay the ridiculously exhorbitant "release fee", would the "company" then just remove the clamp and stop bein pillocks?

He wasn't clamped. He was given an "invoice" on the basis that he breached the term of a contract. An alleged breach of contract is not a breach of the law.

Can you be party to a contract without acknowledging it. For a contract to be formed in law don't you need consideration to have taken place?

I guess that the issue can only occur if the person (or company) who own the land have specifically employed the "Parking Company" to "invoice" the "offenders" and there is a big shiny notice in clear sight to confirm that parking here will incur a charge.

I'm no expert on this matter, but I'd fancy my chances against a bunch of Shisters like they appear to be.
