Pinched off the pies board.
www.newsoftheworld.co.uk/sport/9 ... -2010.html
[i2010 only includes players who've had at least one serious injury that have kept them out for more than a few weeks. [/i
Leeds list:
LEEDS 15 (10 long-term) Scott Donald (shoulder reconstruction), Greg Eastwood (knee and broken wrist), Kallum Watkins (ruptured cruciate ligament), Luke Burgess (double fracture of jaw and ankle), Jamie Peacock (knee twice, including reconstruction), Danny McGuire (knee reconstruction), Kylie Leuluai (ankle), Matt Diskin (groin), Carl Ablett (ankle), Jamie Jones-Buchanan (broken foot), Robbie Burrow (torn cruciate ligament), Chris Clarkson (ankle), Brent Webb (ankle), Ali Lauitiiti (leg), Danny Buderus (knee).
15 players injured for more than a few weeks and we still got to the CC final and finished 3rd. Pretty good effort.

| I was trying to work this out the other night, and I got to around the same figure. A pretty excellent season considering the injuries we have had.

| Interesting to see that both Saints and Wigan have same number of long term injuries too and Saints only one (according to the paper's criteria!?!) lay off behind our stat. Our season has been disrupted majorly by the timing of a lot of the injuries rather than the amount imo.
Still great effort by the 17 put out on the field and hats off to the entire squad for what they have achieved.

| Its quite an interesting stat given that the top 4 injury hit teams all managed to get into the top 6 in the league. And the top 3 injury hit teams finished 1,2,3 in the season. Does that mean if Leeds, Wigan and Saints stay injury free, or have much better luck, next season that they will blow the other teams away?

| Well you would have to think that a more settled squad and consistently turning out the strongest 17 would make a difference. Also, looking at the players injured, it may be that Saints and Leeds have had it rougher with the players they have lost and, thinking back, the times at which they lost them. We immeadiately begin next year on the back foot (barring signings or wonderkids), but at least have opportunity to work the fit players in preseason to get game plans in place.
It could be very interesting in 2011!!

They should have done better, a lot better. Considering TS rested a few the week before the CC final and then again the week before the playoffs. There squad should of been fresh, CC hangover my aris.

| Did Danny McGuire miss a few games early season then? Otherwise it's a bit much to have him as a long term 2010 injury on the back of missing the last game of the season . . . .

He played 26 of the 27 games.
I think the "article" is basing it on injuries picked up during the year which are lengthy or ones that have lead to players coming into 2010 with injuries.

2011, yes I agree.
The Leeds list appears a little bit suspect until you consider who has compiled it and then it becomes more accurate than anyone has a right to expect.
____________
Given the criteria for inclusion was supposedly set at ' =#FF0000only includes players who've had at least one serious injury that have kept them out for more than a few weeks' then I guess it depends how you qualify 'more than a few weeks' but I wouldn't on that basis include Danny Buderus (never missed more than one game each absence), Jamie Jones-Buchanan (two games was his worst), Chris Clarkson (?) and Kylie Leuluai (one three game absence)
But on the other side of the coin I agree that Kevin Sinfield should probably have made it on to the list for the four game absence after the WCC.

| I have just had a conversation with a fellow Rhino supporter at work
With the extra five squad members going for surgery soon, Who has not been injured this year
Excluding Bluey we couldn't come up with one who has been fit all season !!

| For a large part of this season I don't think the number of injuries was the problem. As suggested already I think it was just the timing. We had a poor start to the season through our own doing anyway so were low on confidence already, then on top of that players started dropping like flies. This was the only part of the season I remember us really struggling to put out a strong 17. When we eventually got most of the squad back in the middle third of the season we were playing catch up and desperately trying to rediscover some form. When we started to look like we were doing that we had the crucial injuries to Peacock and Burgess, and latterly McGuire.
Just one of those seasons really, and in fairness we were due one.

'The Machine' came closest. Only missed one game all season and that was away at Salford in Round 23 where he was rested rather than injured.
