Anyone know if it is possible to view BBC in Spain? More specifically in the Costa Brava region?

E mailed hotel and they don't think they can get BBC.



I know if worst comes to the worst there must be some places with a SKY for the soccer so can hopefully catch the reply on there but it won't be the same as watching it live.

Have hired a car so can drive to anywhere within reason. Am contemplating driving to Perpignan if no luck where we are (only 90 mins away).

Any advice greatfully received (my fault for letting missus book the holiday without checking dates first!! )

Chances are, if they've got Sky, won't they have the BBC ?

I would love to think so but don't know if it is the same over there (ie do they get a full SKY package or do they just get the SKY sports channels as part of a package with Spanish satelite providers). I hope it is!!!!

Holidays abroad are catered for people who want to watch Emmerdale and Coronation street in a bar instead of at home. As tragic as this sounds its true. I remember as a kid I got pretty peed off at my parents watching Eastenders every night.

Don´t know about the Costa Brava but I live in Madrid and there´s any number of pubs I can persuade to watch the game. Any pub with SKY will also have BBC as part of its package. Sometimes they have RTE on channel 101 but even then, you can find the BBC on another channel.

IMO you should have no prob. I watched semi in a bar in Mallorca, plus my hotel had it on too. I would think there will be British bar glad to show it, if gets a few punters in the afternoon.

We stayed at our friends parents place in Galicia last weekend and they had BBC via satellite, so again do not think you will have an issue in a tourist hot-spot of Catalonia.

Recently returned from Lanzarote and watched semi final in a bar - they could access bbc via internet

You should have no problemo. Most UK type bars & villas have either the Freeview package which includes BBC, ITV or they have the full SKY package which includes everything. Saludos

In the Costa Brava there will not just be you wanting to watch it. Me personally, I would go round every bar beforehand and ask if they're showing it. Explain how your a big group, and how you plan on staying all day. I've been doing this since about 13/14, in various places across Europe.

I've never had a problem in many places with super league, so I would be shocked if couldn't find somewhere to watch the cc final on the BBC.

If you're in Lloret you won't have any problems whatsoever.

i dont see the problem telling people on here in that kind of situation to use justin television website. There was a trial case done a while back as someone in america was watching the BBC to ITV on there or something. the argument was that they were a british citizen watching a free to air channel abroad and that back home they had a TV license. the case was dropped as they found in his favour

BBC is transmitted by a satellite Astra 2D it has a very wide footprint, meaning it can be picked up in most places in europe (allthough you would need a massive dish in the canaries). BBC1 transmit thier programs subscription free, as a condition of the licience fee we pay. People in europe don't pay the licience fee but are still able to watch the programming for free. Astra are launching a new series of satellites to replace the dying 2A/2B/2C/2D which Sky also use. These will be launched between 2012 and 2014, they are reported to be designed with a much narrower footprint, so that the only place you will be able to recive the channels will be in the UK. TV rights for the premiership are sold to service providers all over europe (and SKY transmit in other countries as they are subscription based) , so you will still be able to watch the football.

Can't see the RFL selling the TV rights to any foriegn providers. Gone are the days of watching the challenge cup on holiday next year may be the last.

Supper league on sky will be fine though.

How wrong the final is on SportsKlub for those in Eastern Europe and no doubt orbit in the Middle East.
