The ability to play the ball correctly (IMO) should be a required skill of the game.

The dumbing down, shortcut approach adopted by the coaches and more or less ignored by the officials highlights why we'll never win a series against the Australians again.

I don't think rolling the ball under the foot without touching it is the reason we don't beat the aussies.

But I assume you mean in general, rather than just the play the ball.

If the game is reffed at the speed of previous weeks Wigan could be undone. Bentham keeps a quick play the ball the pies will suffer. Just look at how many points they are shipping.

I've been having a "discussion" on the Saints board on the play the ball. I've given trying to convince them but I did raise a smile last week when Jon Wilkin on Radio Manchester admitted that they were coached not to play the ball with the foot.
It's getting ridiculous, almost 80% of the time the ball is played incorrectly. There is moaning about slowing the play the ball down, something I have no problem with, providing the ball is played correctly.
Saints are masters at it, watch how many times they crash over from a first pass incorrect play the ball close to the line.
Emmitts try on Friday was a perfect example.

I did tell him to stay at Wigan until the end of this month and I really felt for him when I saw Pryce turn out at Murrayfield. Still, his heart is with Wigan and Crompton speak very highly of him so it is a case of watch the wing! (or centre...)
