no one is disputing that you have been the better side twice this last week.

its the fact that 5 years ago we beat you in a CC final, and competed at your level in the league. In 2006 we finished higher than yourselves and made a grand final. Even in 2007 we finished top4 and were competing at that level.

we have the ground, the support, the finances and several players that have played at international level...so should be amongst the top 4 contenders.

Yet the club continue to persist with a coach who's only previous experience is managing the mighty York. We have exited the challenge cup twice in 2 years at the first round, and finished in the bottom 3 for 2 years...and he's just got a new 2 year deal!

do you expect us just to accept such a decline? in 2 years time if Leeds were battling with Quins and Salford etc for the wooden spoon would you lot not be pointing fingers at the board?

Leeds and Hull are different because the Heatherington's are heavily involved with both. Why is that when Tony Smith left Leeds the decision was made to recruit McLennan on no doubt good pay...yet when Mcrae, Kear and Sharp all left Hull it was decided we'd just promote their assistants (or in the case of Sharp, an assistant from the NRL) because we're a club run on the cheap that's why.

you are at present yes, but there is no reason why Hull can't be at that level either. We have the ground, the support and the youth set-up. With the salary cap the biggest way to get an advantage in SL is a quality head coach...yet we persist with this clueless amateur.

The club seems to have lost all ambition to win SL, the CC or even compete in the top4, all that matters is the profit and loss.

I was giving you an answer to the question 'Why can Leeds hire one of the World's best coach whereas Hull can't'. Ambition is all well and good but you need to be in a position in the first place to attract a coach of his calibre. Hull unfortunately are not, and dare I say, never will be. Leeds, Saints and Wigan will always lead the way in attracting the top coaches in the game. It is unfair yes, but it's how it works.

I agree that success and reputation attracts top coaches...but I doubt that Hull even tried to recruit anyone with any established success in the game. They hired Agar after 1 defeat in temporary charge! the decision was made within one week. I doubt in that time they were hounding the top Aussie coaches agents. They simply don't seem bothered so long as the money keeps coming through the tills (we are currently SL's most profitable club)

Was Sharpe not a renound coach? after paying him off the money left in the pot means an untried coach is all thats available within the budget, thats why Mcnamara's still at the Bulls.

Sharp was a well respected assitant, and was well liked by our players.

he improved Kear's team and took us on a 13match winning run, and to our first grand final.

then Cooke left (which was obviously not Sharp's fault) and the wheels came off, he was never replaced properly and that was his downfall.

even if Agar was appointed as the budget in 2008 had been used up, it still doesn't excuse or explain the decision to give him 2 more years a couple of weeks ago.

there was a thread on RLFans over the winter that said we did make the biggest profit however. Scarily only about 3 clubs actually made a profit last season!

Interestingly, it doesn't mention turnover in the article ... Leeds turned over somewhere in the region of £11m (from what I can find, Hull City only turned over £16million in the year they were promoted to the Premiership)

It is also worth considering that unlike FC, we own our ground and in the last year (when Leeds didn't make a profit) were subject to significant ground maintence costs.

I am afraid hull will struggle as previously posted because they ain't a big name espesially in oz. They clearly have money but waste it on has been Aussies and a old half back.
As a Leeds fan I suppose I can't really comment on has been ausies! Although we have improved in recent times

The point made by the Hull poster about the coach being the key to sucess is not something that gets much consideration. You obviously need the top players, but when most squad have the opportunity to be pretty much equal, getting the best out of them is surely worth the extra money.
