I understand that the Redevelopment of the East Stand which they got planning for last year is to start in May. Quite a big job I understand, making the East Stand into a hotel, conference centre and adding shops and a nightclub! I understand that GMI are involved as Main Contractor (given they build the thing in the first place) but if someone could confirm that for me that would be useful?

It also reminded me that Leeds City Council still own Elland Road, so as for the whole issue of Rhinos and Carnegie playing there at the beginning of next year, Mr Bates may not have too much say!

I also understand the an Ice Rink is being seriously considered for the site old training ground site next door!

A new complex will be "bolted on" to the back of the current East Stand. Think "Chelsea Village" are you won't go far wrong.

I understand that the East Stand may have an unused under-croft they are going to use? I understand that Ken & LUFC have to put up some money if they want to move the changing rooms and also directors/vip seats into the East Stand, LCC (or current owners, as I thought it was LCC?) understandably want them to pay for this sort of change if they want it as tenants, but understand that is likely to happen and LUFC have the cash. I also think the only other change to the stand itself is to add in new corporate boxes at the rear of lower tier of the stand.

The East Stand is the only one that the club can realistically "lock in" but before they can work on the West Stand, they need alternative facilities for corporate entertaining / banqueting, etc. My understanding that, as if you're somebody who just watches the football, you won't notice much, if anything, different.

The problem is that the West Stand is the most profitable part of Elland Road, due to the corporate areas adjoining it.

LUFC can't demolish that without first having replacement facilities.

bates goes on about how how he has made leeds solvent yet he couldn't find £6m for thorp arch but wants to borrow £90m to build a hotel in beeston. feckin beeston i ask you. it didn't work on the kings road so it def won't work in beeston. the sooner he has a coronory the better. i just hope ferguson is sat next to him in the passenger seat at the time

Ken Bates offered to finance a concert venue on the spare land next to Elland Road and also see about financing a train station for fans and visitors but true to form the city centre obsessed council went for a 12,000 seater venue in the worst possable place they could find.

Well yes and no! The Ice Rink thing has been around since I worked for Leeds City Council many, many moons ago and was assistant structural & resident engineer on South Leeds stadium. I did some outline schemes then for an Ice Rink, but no real site was ever pinned down and it was just for costing. The land at the side of Elland Road has been the place the arena has been going since LUFC training facility was moved to Thorpe Arch (another scheme I worked on, interestingly). Now that the arena's location has been decided (albeit nobody has a good word to say about the site location, other than LCC) I do know an Ice Rink scheme is currently being looked at along side Elland Road and costed BUT not sure whom the client is!

You don't build "destination" venues on a tatty industrial estate.

You could argue that you don't shoe horn them into a tatty scrap of land with poor transport links too

From a travel pov mate it'll be a mare plus i think it could of been bigger and better on the proposed ER site.

I just don't see how a site in the city centre can have worse transport links than a site on Elland Rd ???
