The RFL took the edge of the Leeds/Bradford derby over the last few years by scheduling several repeat meeting each season – back in 2007 we had the potential to meet each other 7 times.

Compound this with Bradford’s recent demise, a Sunday kick-off and it being a ‘friendly’ and you’ve got the formula for a low attendance.

Hull derby was also a friendly on a Sunday. Personally, I think 6 000 is a decent attendance for this kind of a game. For more or less a similar game though 16 000 is a great achievement and all hats should be taken off to the fans and both clubs for making it happen.

Even so that is a cracking crowd for a testimonial. It isn`t bad for a league fixture. Have they nothing to do in Hull on a Sunday? I thought we would get at least 8k despite the poor opposition

I was sure that having such a good Boxing day attendance, an 8K+ was on the cards for today too. Obviously not lol

Richard Horne is an ambassador for the sport in our city and both fans are very appreciative of the things he does off field to help the communities in the city. Also just shows the rivalry that is between our 2 clubs and further evidence that it is the ONLY true derby in RL.

I think its been covered already on the boards but i'll repeat it.

I think alot are getting bored of these testimonial games now. We've had many in the past few years now and we've got more to come. I'd of thought we would've got more today though. A half decent Bradford following was the key.

Plus numerous dinners and ladies nights! They could do with being a bit more innovative but really.. what else can the club offer? Can't think of anything off the top of my head personally.

How can you get bored of these matches? These are players who have given great service to your club, do you not think they deserve to be rewarded?

Personally I don't get bored. I'm nearly having withdrawl symptoms from live RL after the winter so a good pre-season game against Bradford is perfect medicine. I can see for less dedicated fans though that the appeal of watching a team made up of quite a few reserve/academy grade players which tbh, even though today's game was entertaining, lacks the intensity of a SL game is not the same.

You would expect a higher crowd though as you would want all your season ticket holders to show up in all honesty.

Quite easily. I'd be happier if it was a more competitive match, maybe offer 50% of a gate receipt during the season.

I would rather be asked when buying my season ticket if i wish to make a donation to someones testimonial fund.

I think they deserve to be rewarded, yes it is a short career but will still be able to get a job after a life playing RL.

Anyhow, i attended, only on the lack of anything intersting to do on my Sunday afternoon.

Which was £2 cheaper than boxing day for those who are interested.

To those moaning about certain Leeds fans not turning up for Diskins testimonial I have this to say to you. Leeds Rhinos tend to get 15 thousand plus fans average on a gate during the regular season. Most of them fans are wearing the latest teams home shirt and have probably bough half a dozen stuff in the past from the club shop. No doubt a lot of Rhinos fans have sky TV also.

This all helps towards Matt Diskin have a career that he loves. We’ve shown that we appreciate over the years like that by attending his teams games and buying his teams merchandise. We don’t need to turn up for his so called testimonial game and we don’t need to be ashamed for not going.

Rugby league is after all entertainment and for some of us attending every game just isn’t entertaining anymore. Try and look at that side in future when you criticise an attendance.

circa 6k for a testimonial is par for the course, its what all the other testimonials at Leeds in recent years have attracted for what is, in the majority of supporters eyes, a non-event.

I don't buy into all the tosh about "great ambassador" or "faithful servant", Matt Diskin is a nice lad' always takes time to speak to anyone and everyone, is very polite, nice to his mum and uses a knife and fork properly at all of the testimonial dinners that I've been to where he's sat at our table.

Having said that he's earned a good living (and still has a long way to go) doing something that he'd do for free, something that the vast majority of those who follow the sport can never say about themselves, he's a lucky lad and personally I don't feel an overwhelming urge to throw £15 of my already very stretched household budget into a testimonial fund for him, I've worked since 1974 and no fekker has ever suggested giving me £150k tax free lump sum anytime soon, in fact its looking like I'm going to have to work till I drop at this rate

Given Leeds will have 2 play-off games a grand final (Plus X's) and WCC more than the hull clubs, maybe the punters were saving money?

What makes you think they have to be two distinct commodities?
