Ricky Nuggent

The amateur game is once more reeling with the shock news of the passing of under seventeen’s player Ricky Nuggent.

Ricky collapsed during a game on the weekend and sadly passed away in the LGI on Tuesday 29th September.

BARLA Chairman Spen Allison spoke of his grief on hearing the news saying, “I am deeply saddened with the passing of Ricky, the whole events are beyond words. To loose a young man in these circumstances is devastating. On behalf of our association, may I pass on our sincere condolences to the family and friends of Ricky.”

The BARLA Chairman has also made a request that the amateur game pay its respect to Ricky by holding a minutes silence before their games at the weekend saying, “Once more I am asking our family to come together at this sad time and respect this young man’s sad passing. We must all unite in grief and support Ricky’s family, friends and club.”

Following a meeting at the West Leeds club where Ricky played, it was agreed unanimously and with the support of Ricky’s parents, that the weekends games should go ahead as a mark of respect for the young player.

Sad to lose someone as such a young age, playing the game we all love.

It's been a terribly sad twelve months for the sport.

Terrible news yet again.

Being a parent I can't even begin to think what it must be like to lose a son/daughter so my thoughts really go out to his family.

I can and you don't want to go there...... not ever.
