I think Danny McGuire has had an excellent season. He had a great game on Friday as well. He's got to the stage now where he's just taken for granted, he may have lost a yard of pace but he tackles better than most halves which more than makes up for it.

Luke Robinson is a surprise inclusion. He was dire against Saints on Saturday.

Danny McGuire cannot tackle, he always struggles to get a grip on a player and is up there when it comes to been handed off.

It is not the strongest part of his game, but to say he can not tackle is rubbish. I think he has pulled off a number of potentially try saving tackles this year.
He has had a good season and looks more and more like a complete stand-off for me. I still wish he would run a little more with ball in hand like Pryce does and I often think that when Robbie does not play he does seem to do that, almost making up for that element of our game at half-back.
Despite what the Dream Team might say, I think he is now the number 1 British stand-off in SL and has wiped the floor with Pryce this year in terms of form. While Tompkins is a talent and a real live wire he is still a hot-headed young lad who needs time develop. I think Danny would be my choice for the England number 6 jersey ahead of Tompkins and then Pryce. I think the Aussies in particular would sledge Tompkins and he would end up being just as much a liability as he would also bring in attack.

I agree, for me he is the no 1. SO in the country. These stats would also suggest that he does carry more than Pryce.

I also think Tompkins has a very short fuse. Matt King wound him up a treat in the CC semi, without much real effort.

Pryce has been poor this year in the main, and as much as I think there are certain questions against McGuire, no one can really argue that he isn't ahead of Pryce in the selection stakes. Whether he is selected ahead of Tomkins who has vast potential is another issue, although it would be nice if British Rugby was in a strong enough position not to need to be promoting players with one good debut season straight in to the national line up.

That did surprise me but still think Danny needs to run a little more with ball in hand IMO. Looking at both Tomkins and Pryce's stats compared to Danny's though, it is more than clear who is the English number 1 stand-off!

McGuire better than Tomkins in most areas, having only played a few more games.
The big area where Tomkins has the advantage is in making fewer mistakes - probably because McGuire is often on the receiving end of a lot of speculative passes?

I agree Tomkins is a real talent and I would have him in the squad as the number two choice and possibly play him against France but he his not quite ready for me! As said, he is very easy to wind up and would be a real target for the Aussies and NZ!
Danny needs to watch his back though!

Which ones?
Less tries? Less metres per carry? Same number of assists? Less offloads? Less tackles? Less busts? Less runs from dummy half? Less 40/20s? More missed tackles? More penalties? More errors?
He kicks more and has made 3 more clean breaks.
I'd say it's far from clear!
Come to think of it, how is the Opta stats team decided ![Confused icon_confused.gif](//www.rlfans.com/images/smilies//icon_confused.gif)

Lets not do this again, he has more metres overall in more carries yes, but he kicks twice as much in general play and makes twice as many attacking kicks! This is the reason for these stats and that is why I have said he should run more with the ball in hand.

| I'm surprised Puletua didn't make the Dream Team to be honest, always been really impressed by him whenever Saints are on Sky. Gets great yards after the first hit usually with his leg drive.
