Is the squad still too small?

Is the pack still too lightweight?

Do we still need to buy a right centre?

I do wished I'd had the foresight to bookmark threads from earlier in the season.

It would save me the chore I've suffered these last two years of searching back to dredge them up.

I recall some on here panicking about the likes of Huddersfield and KR over-taking us in the league.

i don't spend as much time on here, but the ts havent just been knee jerking on here, those sat round me have too, its one of the reasons i have stopped attending rhinos games.

Remember the Salford and Harlequins games and how many knee jerks there were then!

The threads around that time would make very interesting reading now.

Batley Rhino was ready to top himself after we got beaten away at Wigan.

I think some people on here just need to realise that Leeds will not win every game, and sometimes the opposition are the better team on the day.

As we have already signed 2? centres who will join us next year, a prop and a back row forward from other English clubs, and finally sorted out Eastwoods Visa for next season, I'd say the squad looks okay.

I'm not getting carried away about putting 70+ and 60+ on two hapless teams, in the same way I wouldn't get depressed about getting taken apart by Wigan - it happens and it's a tight competition this year - just as inteneded by inroducing the salary cap.
And I'll be enjoying the Challenge cup final on Saturday, which once again we won't be playing in.

That's the only one of your questions which is still to be proven.

It's still concievable that we'll get a few injuries in the coming weeks.

Personally I think that the squad was a little too small, but so far we have been reasonably fortunate with injuries.

Glad that we seem to be peaking at the right time again.Just need to keep it up for the next 6 weeks

I read a thread on here the other day about the squad that may be facing us at Headingly on 4th of September.

A combination of reading the team you are likely to put out, and the form that we are in at the moment, made it a good job i was wearing brown underwear at the time.

On a thread asking for McLennan to be sacked I typed the following.

No, Smith has filled in admirably in the unfamiliar role. It's a shame he is leaving at the end of the season, although in some quarters it has been portrayed as no great loss.

Presumably now the coach (who has also been questioned) is the right man for the job afterall?

Hitting a bit of form and spanking 2 very poor sides does not erase the memories of some terrible performances that i have seen this season. We got bossed about by Salford, Quins and Bulls.

At times this season the pack has been tired and it has effected the performances and results. But with a week off the pack has come back refreshed and done the business. If you want to see a Rhinos side that is top draw every week, win the CC, not have a rest for the whole season then you could say the pack is a bit lightweight and low on numbers...but weighing things up is all that possible with the salary cap and the quality of opposition we are facing these days..no definately not. On the other hand Amor and Pitts have come on board which should without a doubt strenghen the pack next season and which in turn should make us a more consistent side.

As for right centre it has taken Smithy a long time to adjust to the position, but full credit to McClennan he stuck by it and is now reaping in the rewards. But the fans were right to be crying out for a right centre as the right flank was totally non existent in attack.

The recruitment of all players you mention is for next season. How many have played 1st team this year?

I care not what the CEO says, he should have stood his ground rather than pandering to the bleating masses and telling them what they wanted to hear. I maintained all along that this squad was good enough to win the championship.

He has and it is a shame he is leaving. I wouldn't say it was no great loss but nor would I say he was irreplaceable. He's already been replaced.

Well, I did say very early in the season that he could turn the mess around (see above) and he seems to be doing so.

I also said if he got to grips with the discipline (which has taken far too long) we were good enough to win it.

I may have had doubts about the coach. However, you and many others had no faith in him, the chief exec or the players.

Eastwood was for 2009 originally which in part is the reason the forwards have been light this season.



Full credit to Hetherington for holding his hands up and accepting the squad for 2009 has been understrength. It was an obvious admission to make but not one I expected we would hear.



And I have agreed providing Leeds have their 1st choice seventeen available when it matters. That is where the squad comes into the equation as cover for the unavoidable injuries.

Had Leeds strengthened sufficiently we wouldn't need to be scrambling for top spot with grief stricken St Helens.



Not the case at all but even if it was the case Leeds did not defend the WCC, got knocked out of the Challenge Cup at the first hurdle with home advantage and as yet have still to win anything of note this season.

I'd hate for you to be premature.

I dont think he has, I think he is building for the future with some potentialy good young signing, pandering would of been making a desperate aussie superstar buy mid season this year.
