| On return to the car last night that was parked in the housing area at the back of the western terrace/cricket stadium we found a 'fixed penalty' sticker on the screen. On opening it we found a printed sheet with the car details hand written and the reason we got the ticket. What baffled me was there was no mention of money etc. It goes onto say 'you are expected to take note of this matter and thereby avoid any further action being necessary'
Is this a fine or not. Did anyone else get one?

| Any fool can buy "Fixed Penalty" plastic envelopes from any stationers (Viking Direct for instance).
Presumably your "notice" has no contact details or mention of a fixed penalty sum anywhere on it ?
Presumably you were parked in a street on a public road and not obstructing a driveway at all ?
I'd park there again next time, its someone trying to turn the public road outside his house into a private road, unfortunately it'll take a lot more effort than a few stickers to do that - there's an old bloke gets his pants in a twist every time I park opposite his house on the "St Annes" estate, it just makes me want to park there again and again.

There used to be painted outside the wall on one of the terraced houses many years ago....Fuck Off....don't park here......and you know what?.....nobody did.
Perhaps we knew what the consequences would be....4 new tyres makes for an expensive day out, or maybe we just had a little bit of sympathy for the aggro that the residents had to put up with on match days.
I park on Kirkstall Road, and walk up to Headingley.
Simples.

As Mclaren Field says it's probably some resident trying to stop you parking outside his house.
I'd park there again with a notice in the back window saying you are on CCTV. When you arrive back and he comes out to tell you off, tell him if he touches your car you'll smash all his house windows.

| I thought it was abit strange. No contact details but on west yorks police paper. It was on a junction, not blocking a drive.

In that case I'd also tell the bloke you're reporting him for impersonating a police officer.

| I think the Highway code says something about not parking within 15 metres of a junction, but I'm not 100% sure and can't be bothered to look it up.
It's unlikely to be "the real thing" for all the reasons you've stated, but you might want to check out the laws just in case the police do ever fancy a bit of easy revenue around Headingley on a Friday evening.

| I saw this woman running to her car in the car park near the market, she was running because she thought she was getting a ticket, when it was the car next to hers - I got all that from just walking past. Stalker.
And when she ran did she turn heads. Byyyy eck! Little tiny pair of shorts on. Legs all the way up. PINS. P.I.N.S!
I ended up marrying her the day after.

The clue might just be West Yorks Police Notepaper......
Not all infringements get an automatic ticket. It sounds like a friendly plod has taken a relaxed view on your poor parking!
As always, the Highway code is your friend young Kendall

| The Turnways?
Isn't that a residents only parking zone these days?
This is an old photo but isn't there a big '**** off no parking board' on the left these days (or possibly on both sides) for those with selective eyesight.

| I'd check up to make sure ... The Rita Meter Maids were booking a couple of cars on Newport View, near where it joins to St Michael's Lane near the back of the South Stand Car Park.

| It is always possible that you might get something in the post, for of course HM Government being keen to get every private company in the land to uphold the very letter of the law related to The Data Protection Act under threat of prosecution, is quite happy to sell your car ownership details off its own databases to any fekkwit parking or clamping company with sufficient funding to purchase said data.
Just don't get the Rhino from Bramley started on the issue, we'll be here all day...

| Its nothing to do with the police. Parking issues are a civil offense not a criminal one. Would be dealt with by Leeds City Council, or a company working on their behalf.
There are loads of websites which will tell you whether your ticket is valid or not. In the last year we have been given 2, and got off them both as the paperwork is not up to standard.
If there is a contact address then you should send a letter to it challenging it.
If there are no details, and you are 100% sure that you parked legally then leave it, and see what turns up.

You're wrong on that one. My Sister is a PCSO (Plastic Pig) and she carries a notepad around for fixed penalties for parking infringments or driving offences (i.e using a bus/taxi gate)
We parked on a junction, which is illegal (should be 10meters away from one??)

I guess there is some distinction then between what they can and can't do you for then. I would guess that its stuff where its actually illegal/dangerous for someone to park there.
But for parking on yellow lines or resisdents permit areas the police have nothing to do with it

D'you know I don't really. unless they've lived there a VERY long time, they ought to have known what they were getting into when they moved there. If you're legally parked on a public road they really need to STFU. There's nowhere to park near where I live on a weekend in the summer either, I don't go round sticking made up fixed penalty notices all over the place.

As they built the stadium around 1889, I doubt there are any of the original inhabitants left alive. As far the idea, that they should have known what to expect somehow equates into a licence for the more gormless amongst us to cause offence is simply risible.
Sadly, your crass attitude is not just restricted to a couple of posters on here who can't be d to walk any distance, but is indicative of a "sod the lot of you" thought process.
What goes round comes around, and I am waiting with bated breath to read a post complaining about a trashed car, and being mocked by a street full of less than sympathetic residents.

Sorry, how does parking a car, sensibly and legally, on a public road cause offence to any sane and rational person? I am not advocating parking in stupid, inconsiderate or dangerous places. I would suggest to you that vandalising somebody's car because you believe you have more right to park on a section of road because it happens to be near your house (or suporting that action) reflects a far worse attitude. Essentially what you seem to be suggesting is that it isn't OK for people to park on roads near the ground (that would be a crass attitude) but laughing at the joys of somebody's vehicle being vandalised would be a far more acceptable attitude? License to cause offence? By parking your car? That is risible, and you are a hypocrite. Parking = Bad. Criminal damage = Perfectly understandable.
I have the fortune (and occasionally misfortune) to live near a popular attraction. It is even older than Headingley and attracts visitors more than once a fortnight. It can make street parking a bit of an issue round where I live. This can be annoying. However, it has to be conceded that the roads are public and no parking restrictions are in place, so the owners of those cars are doing nothing wrong by parking there. Obviously I'd find it hilarious if somebody trashed one of those cars wouldn't I? No, no I wouldn't. I'm sure you would though.

Perhaps we can bring a little less hot air into the discussion, and concentrate on the specific difficulties of parking around Headingley?
The original poster admitted, eventually, to obstructing a junction, and must surely be thought of as inconsiderate. Equally, IMHO is MacF.who may indeed park perfectly legally where he does, but admitted that not only was it upsetting the residents, and rather than find somewhere different he'd continue to wind up the old guy.
Despite your less than eloquent advice that in knowing about the Stadium prior to buying their property the residents should STFU, I'm pretty sure you know the difference between causing offence and committing one.
Your straw man fallacy was worthy of the Sin Bin, but I am happy to make it clearer.....Inconsiderate parking(not illegal) = bad. Criminal damage = bad(but perfectly understandable)
I try and park with some thought for the residents and will most certainly s when I read that they have voted with their veggie knives. Not to do so would indeed be hypocritical.

| Just to clarify my situation, I don't park outside the old guys house, I park on the other side of the road to it, not only does the daft old buggah not want people parking on his side of the road he doesn't want them parking within eyeshot of his front window.
I take great delight in winding him up and usually give him a wave as I lock my car up where he can see it from his armchair which usually results in him rushing to the window, flinging it open and hurling insults, he's a hilarious example of a person with absolutely no self control at all and one day he'll have a heart attack and die whilst doing so.
I will of course most certainly s as to not do so would be hypocritical.
