I'm sure this has been complained about a million times in the past but why are the cricketers still allowed to park on the pitch?

It annoys me every time I see it. Why can't they park where the Rugby players do?

Probably down to money i'd imagine???, Can't say i'm a big fan of it either...

Id love to see how Yorkshire would feel if the rhinos players parked there cars on the wicket!

It may help them win a few games

In other words, people who are putting a hell of a lot of money into Headingley coffers.

They've done it for absolutely ages. It's not done that much harm over the years. I've not got a problem with it

Compare the situation with a few years ago, when the pitch was completely covered by cars and there's a definite reduction in numbers these days.

On the plus side the weather was fine so no cars getting bogged down - and the negative - two lost days of income to the Headingley Conglomerate PLC! and loss of earning to those who said they would turn up and work today and tomorrow, the bar staff, stewards, car parking attendants, cricket players....... et al

Indeed. Standing on Cardigan Road today, I saw one of the mobile burger vans driving away from Headingley.

The driver didn't look too thrilled. It must have cost him a fortune.

Remember the Headingley Test match that was stopped on the Saturday after protestors dug up the wicket ?

My uncle was still catering manager at Headingley at that point and he'd bought five days worth of food - we lived off pork pies and sausage rolls in our house for about seven weeks after that...

north stand, only problem is you have to sit next to the t who sits next to me!

All the pictures in the press had Tony Greg and Ian Chappell squatting on the side of the wicket (as if preparing to take a communal dump) wearing tut tut expressions.

A couple of ironies:

1) From memory it was the final day of the test with the outcome delicately poised. I was there except they never opened the ground to the paying spectators and it peed it down all day anyway so there would have been no play possible.

2) Having successfully campaigned for his release Davis then went on to commit a couple of armed roberies and was sent down for another couple of stretches anyway.

You are losing your statistical cred there tvoc, The poster said it was a Saturday and in fact it was a Tuesday! Like you, I was lucky enough to have been given a ticket for the Tuesday and sent off with a raft of potted beef butties and some squash for a days entertainment. Alas, not to be. So I walked back to Stanningley but cant remember getting wet - but then again I was young and you dont notice the rain when you are young as every day in childhood was a sunny day!
