| Apparently we have signed Canterbury Bulldogs centre Daryl Millard on a 2 year deal. This is the centre who Leeds tried to sign, but the Bulldogs would'nt release him from his contract early.

Not seen him but the reaction on here when the deal was rumoured was underwhelmed,a bit like some of the views on the delaney thread.

| Its; really good to see that since the RFL have cleared up the overseas quota (by cleared up I meant confused the heck out of it) clubs are not rushing out and signing overseas players anymore.
Not a criticism of the Bulls btw, lately we're just as bad.

| TBF im fed up of all these signings and might boycott the SL next season. If I want to watch Aussies I can watch decent ones when I want.

I guess our problem is that if we want to watch donkeys we can go watch them on Blackpool beach for free. One assumes these rumoured signings are a best attempt to persuade us we should still trek up to Odsal...

| It's embarrassing for us. Apart from superstars like Trent Barret and Jamie Lyon, we just get has beens coming over for a good pension in SL.
How many people still remember the likes of Peter Sterling, Brett Kenny and Eric Grothe (genuine stars and at the time top Aussies in their comp) playing over here. They brought in the crowds and were worth every penny clubs spent on them.
I mean, Steve Menzies?

And they were here for about 12 weeks during the Australian off-season before they cleared off with suitcases full of cash taken out of the British game.
If a player wants to come to the UK now, they have to effectively sacrifice their representative career. You're not going to get the top stars of the NRL doing that.

Seeing Brett Kenny and Peter Sterling at Wembley and Mal Meninga at Elland Road were great memories of a great season. A pity Leeds and Eric Grothe went out at Craven Park as seeing Eric and Mal on opposing sides would have been a fitting finale. The day of the Valley Parade fire and Stan Wall's final game as St Helens referee.

| I got to watch the 82 Roos train a fair bit in Leeds and you couldn't have met a nicer fella than Eric Grothe. Very quiet and reserved, but incredibly polite to anyone who took the time to approach him for an autograph or just a chat. Still got an ARL pin badge of a kangaroo sat on a rugby ball somewhere at home that he gave away.
On the field he was way ahead of his time - a winger who was a physical specimen with great strength and speed well before sides like the Bulls made it fashionable.
Stories get exaggerated over time, but I can remember him giving Ray Ashton (I think) about twenty yards start and catching him the blink of an eye, as well as his abominable snowman impression in the Bridgend cup game.

Was Ray Ashton his teammate then and doing his usual run around in a circle. I could have caught him pretty quickly when he wasn't running anywhere.

He's been officially a missing person since running up his own a[irs[/ie at the end of the 1989 season.
