| Yet again the bowlers fail to polish off the tail.
Had Notts at 84 for 5, end up with 395.
Adams at 10 gets 84 including 8 sixes.
Rashid going at nearly 7 an over.
Good job the Rhinos are here to keep me cheerful.

| On a YCCC message-board I go on Chief Exec Stewart Regan has posted this:
[i"As you can imagine its absolutely mad at present with the Ashes just around the corner and a major building project underway. That said, were all getting stuck in and making headway. Things on the pitch have been tough and Martyn (Moxon) & I have spoken at length about this. We know the performance at present is unacceptable and a plan has been put in place to address this"[/i
Only thing in can realistically think in the short term is Rana (who is playing limited over stuff for Pakistan ATM) being replaced with a short term O/S signing who can get us a few wickets.

I know what you're saying & I read Regan's comments but short term signings are no good in the long term either for Yorks or England.
The bowling coaches need to be looked at.

| dont get me wrong I love the longer game of cricket but how many counties really give a stuff about the 4 day game when they know serious amounts of money can be made in a 3 hour toss up

| Yorkshire's only hope of avoiding relegation is to pay off the useless Naved and sign a quality overseas bowler for the remainder of the season.
If there was a suitable replacement available I would also relieve McGrath of the captaincy. It is a pity that Vaughan has retired, as IMO, he would be an ideal choice to get the best out of the under-performing rabble that current represents Yorkshire.

The counties may not care, but hopefully the players do, as it's their chance to play themselves into the test arena.

Yes in the long term, but that's not going to keep us up this season ...... that's if we're really that bothered about being a D1 county.

True
I love test matches but I wonder if there will be as many in 10 years time

Things have been very good for Durham since Moxon let though. I thought it was a good move bringing him back, but not so sure now.

Moxon has been in charge throughout a period in which a overseas bowler with a serious shoulder injury was given a two year contract. Yorkshire have not won a County Championship match for over 12 months and if, as seems more than likely, they don't win another game this season, it will be the first time in the club's history that it has failed to win a single championship match in a season (even in the dark days of 1983 when they finished bottom they still managed one win).
By any yardstick that record is totally unaccetable and what is particularly galling is that Regan, Moxon and McGrath seem happy to let things drift along without taking any obvious measures to rectify the situation. These issues shouls be addressed without delay:-
1 The opening batsmen. Rudolph is wasted here beng exposed to the new ball and is far better batting at no 4.
2 The captaincy. No leadership, little motivation, poor field placement and woeful tactical decisions. Also McGrath's own form appears to be suffering badly from the pressure of his job as captain.
3 The bowling attack. Weak last season and nothing done to strengthen this year. Money wasted on the worst overseas player in living memory and rumours of discontent (Hoggard and Shahzad's mooted transfer to Worcestershire).
Yorkshire have enough decent players not to be fighting a relegation battle.
If we do go down, and I really think we will from the rubbish I have watched this season, heads should roll starting at the top.

I agree with this. Get a decent over seas player in. Get rid of Rana and get someone in who can captain. PLEEEEEEASE!

I've said elsewhere - he didn't want the job, hell he didn't even want to be at Yorkshire in 2009 so it's hardly a surprise he's spent most of the season sulking around like he doesn't give a stuff.
Best thing Yorkshire could have done over the winter was let him go and start the season with a bunch of players who actually wanted to be at the county. Instead they went begging on bended knee throwing the captaincy at him.
The club needs a good clearout. Of the current first team squad I'd be waving goodbye over the winter to Rana Naved, McGrath, Brophy, Kruis and Hoggard. Offer Rudolph the captaincy, stick Gale back at the top of the order to open with Sayers and give Richie Pyrah and Adam Lyth some more first class game time.
Make serious efforts to ensure Shahzad is retained, bring in an overseas pace bowler (someone like Stuart Clark if the Aussies aren't going to be using him) and start next season something like:
Gale, Sayers, Rudolph, Lyth, Bairstow, Pyrah, Bresnan, Rashid, Shahzad, Patterson/Wainwright/Rafiq (depending on conditions), AN Other.

| Not sure I agree about Lyth, good in the field but looks short of talent in his main occupation.
I'd like to see Ballance given some game time. I've not seen him bat but is scoring runs for fun at the lower levels.
If Hoggard goes to Worcs we should try to get Steven Davies (WK) in return.
I agree about Rudolph & McGrath.
The pity is that Vaughan (couldn't come good both for him, Yorks & England.
Stuart Clark is a good call but the problem with any decent overseas player is that they are always liable to be called up at any time by their country, even Naved!!
I still believe that we need to base the side around talented local lads who really want to play for the county.
I hope that Rudolph does not go back to SA as rumoured.
