The pub across the road from the ground has (since our last visit there) totally shut down

So no more 45 minute waits at the bar
No more feet sticking to the floor when you walk in
No horrible stench
No more water down beer


the reason it had closed.....well apparently It never had a licence

Thank fook for that, those people didn't deserve to hold a licence, even if they didn't have one, they didn't even deserve not to hold a licence.

I shall ring up Norris McWhirter now and cement my place into his Book of Records permenantly - the record will never be beaten now.

we always get the train in from Leeds and get off at Westgate. We do Boons (free grub from 5.30pm), Elephant & Castle, The Hop and then to the game. Afterwards we do Fernandos on the roundabout near Wilkos

There are no other bars within the area of the ground now. I don't know if they let away fans in the Cats bar to be honest.

How on earth will people cope for 2 hours without a drink?!

Don't know whether they do now but they have in the past ... me, for instance, even with a Leeds shirt on.


Anyway, best place pre-match is the Fernandes Brewery Tap, in Avison's Yard, just off Kirkgate.
There's always a bunch of rugby folk in there on a match day.
It's a bit of an odd place but very congenial and friendly with a great range of beer.

Sadly, it's about 15 mins walk away from the ground but if you're arriving at Wakefield Westgate railway station or at the bus station, it's more or less en-route.

I dunno. Doesn't bother me anyway. I'll be in the car so I won't be touching a drop anyhoo.

Any directions for that place? We've drunk in the 'Spoons in Wakefield before now, it's cheap and on the bus route, but I've heard good things about it and wouldn't mind trying it out.

Looks like I might manage a visit either pre or post match.

Kirkgate is the main street in town going towards Belle Vue.
When you get more or less level with the big roundabout (on your left), Avison's Yard is on your right.

When you find Avison's Yard, you might think "This is not the place" but it is.
When you start to go up the stairs into it, you might think "This can't be the place" but it still is.

Get yourselves down to the Red Shed too - just off the top of Kirkgate. If you come in by Westgate, my sources tell me Harrys Bar is exceptional.

Since Friday, I can now report that the Harewood Arms, also in Kirkgate, is a decent pub, with decent beer and SKY sport.
The menu reads well too, although I didn't eat there.

Technically, the nearest place serving alcohol to the Stadium is probably the bar inside the bowling alley next to the ground.

Did anyone go in the conservative club near the ground ?
They would only let a small number of away fans in . We found an off licence in the back streets and got lots of beers . Then we sat on the cons club wall drinking it ( and handing beers out to passing rhinos fans that looked thirsty )

We went in the supporters club when we got back to HQ , and was pleasantly surprised when we were joined in there by Keef , Burgess , Hall , Diskin , and Smithy .
We had a chat with them ,( part of it involved begging Smithy to stay because I think that him been considerably richer than the rest of this squad this time next year would spoil him

) . We took a few pics.. Got one of Ryan under one of our 'parasols' . and one of Keef and Rick together. They look nothing alike when they stood together , so will people kindly stop singing the Keef song at him please . He was rather embarassed by it at the bar at half-time at Hull .
