| Right i am not soley blaming our loss on the referee becaue i know and admit saints were the better team on the day, but i can't help but feel bentham is becoming a poor referee he gave penalties for nothing and all round was pretty poor. I also have now seen the Catalans match i think that Ganson had a much better match, to be frank i think the officials were poor all together yesterday.

| On Sunday we only had one ref at our game and that was Phil Bentham.

| I didn't think there was much to choose. I don't think either had a bad game on Sunday to be honest. I thought Bentham kept control over a game which could have been difficult and got most of his decisions spot on. Nobody gets them all right. The Catalans game had a couple of debatable video ref calls, but they're nothing to do with Mr Ganson.

| Bentham kept the 10m rather poorly. I didn't see any bias there, but it certainly didn't do our flat attack any favours.

| No bias at all but IMO he was poor in certain departments. Nothing to do with the loss though as we were well beaten.
IMO though Ganson is better every time. I like him and apart from he over the top decisions he rarely lets things go and knows how to control a game. I woul have prefered him as ref on Sunday.

| Ganson's early application of the basic laws of the game were non-existent.
That's a major issue with him. It's either twenty penalties a half or non at all.
I much prefer the non at all games but there again I like to see some basic laws applied at the same time.
Alibert as the video ref had a shocker on the Sheriff touchdown unless you can now score with your hip after knocking on.

| The selection of a Ref, and my opinion of the Ref after the game are the same.....I don't care who it is!!! I watch the game, and decisions are made beyond my control, so be it.
Refs don't knock on, mis-tackle, give penalties away etc etc ad infinitum....
For every Tansey vs Bulls game at Cardiff there's a Russel Smith vs Wigan game at Headingley. It all balances out.
Far too much is made of who is reffing.
I do like the NRL '2 Refs' system though, and think it'll become the norm over here.

| Benham hasnt got a scooby whats going on, its time we copied the NRL and had two referees on the pitch - its working well out there.
I would apply for the job, and I'd certainly clamp down on the ball tickling which currntly takes place.

We have enough to cover tidying the ruck up surely and leave the rest to the current crop of SL refs?

Neither did the NRL which is why there were several on debut at the start of the season. You've got to start somewhere and that's all that would happen over here.
That said I don't reckon anything to it. Last Saturday in the Storm V Titans game Ashley Klein reffed the first six turnovers as if he was the only official out there (contrary to previous explanations) and nobody even batted an eyelid.
Over here if we want to speed the game up we instruct the refs to blow the pea out of the whistle. That feeds through to the coaches who instruct the players to stop messing around which in turn cuts out the need to penalise. Job done. Over there they stick a second ref to shout behind the PTB.
On the plus side the refs workload is reduced on turnovers and at set scrums so fatigue is less of an issue and obviously the second pair of eyes like a roving on field touch judge should 'in theory' aid the decision making.
