| Quote ="tvoc"You're probably correct but (failing a quality signing) I'd rather see it go to a regular first grader.
IMO shirts 1 to 13 should be reserved for those established players that have made the grade. The numbers don't have to and often don't correlate to starting positions anymore. One of the centres wears 12, the stand off wears 13, the scrm half wears 6, the hooker wears 7 and the best winger wears 16.'"
If Keinhorst gets the number four.....surely he becomes a regular first grader , plus rather have him as a good prospect than an import player, leaves more cap space, I can imagine there is a large difference in payment and contract between these two options and with regular game time I don't think there will be a big difference in ability or performance.
Also usually the squad numbers are revised each year to represent the probable squad that the coach thinks is his starting 17 plus squad players....it just makes sense...this isn't the NFL or Hockey

I'd be very surprised if Kenhorst gets the no. 4 squad number. He's got potential but no experience and GH has said a priority was recruiting a quality experienced centre. Kenhorst has recently got a new 3 year contract but it's only p/t as he is still at Leeds Met. He will get a squad number in the range 20 - 25.

Err, only by playing regularly in the first grade would he become a regular first grader. That he has still to do.
I'd seriously hope there were at least seventeen other players at Leeds with more than a few token appearances to their name and therefore (IMO) more deserving of a 1 to 17 squad number.
There again he didn't exactly have to earn a Wembley appearance so who knows. Jeff Grayshon must be wondering what he ever did that was so wrong by comparison.

Is that because you don't think the NRL prepares league players better than the Union/Poly/Acad type level that I assume Keinhorst has come from?

Usually? For some players certainly but not neccesarily all. Is it likely Sinfield, McGuire and Burrow will be happy to vacate their usual numbers, numbers they've worn all their careers once becoming established at Leeds. Sinfield has worn 13 for 13 seasons, McGuire and Burrow have worn the 6 and 7 for 10 seasons yet none currently play in the positions that once made those numbers fit. It wouldn't be right if they changed them now ...... would it? Remember the fuss when Diskin had to hand over his coveted number 9 to that no-name Aussie chancer.

Watkins and Hardadker were only a little more experienced before they were given the chance....again Leeds have had good faith in youngsters

Of course he earnt it....and he should have gone into the game earlier, he played some strong games prior to the CCF especially the week before in France, set up try and scored and defending well against a big French back line

Not at all, Keinhorst has come through an unusual route still played a year for our U20's and was clearly a stand out, but he has played good level academy Rugby union in Aus with Queensland University I believe and also played other decent open aged levels so its not like he lacks that much....of course SL is another level....but having him play at Hunslet may hinder his development....rather loan out to another SL club if that was possible.

I agree there are a couple of expections, and 6 & 7 can be interchangeable, as for Sinny....13 is his your right, but I expect zak to get 1 next year, if Lunt stays he gets 9 etc......

| For reasons stated previously I would be amazed if Keinhorst gets the number 4 squad number. He will be in the 25 man squad but in the range 20-25 numbers.

As poster above mentioned....confirmed - Colton Roche.
With this in mind we will see similar sigings from our youngsters due to the system change next year. Who from our first team squad do you think will benefit from Hunslet rather than a SL loan or vice versa.
For me Hood, Singleton, Keinhorst definatley need to see SL game time....., but Chislom (on loan to Leeds Carnegie) and Watson also potentials....

| Roche gone to Sheffield eh? Didn't do right well when he went to Oldham, he was released after 2 games. Good luck to him though. My Rumour Mill tells me that D Smith is talking to Wakey, D Bravo is off to play in Oz in the Toyota Cup (like our 20s level). Maybe Syron is going too. God know what happened to Jered Stewart?????????? Browny going to Dewsbury?????????

I think that Daniel Smith could still make it in SL despite being released by the Rhino's,if he's given the chance.
He has always looked very impressive to me in the academy leagues and although it is a big step up to actually making it as a fully fledged SL player i still believe he could do it
All the best of luck to all of our departing academy players and it's been a pleasure watching you all in action for the blue and amber, i hope that you all have a chance to progress your careers elsewhere and maybe prove the club wrong

| The problem with Keinhorst going on loan is that it would have to be somewhere local.
He's going to have a lot of calls on his time next year with his degree, so I can't see him wanting to spend half his life on the M62.

Why would he have to go on loan in the first place then?
Let him concentrate on his degree and just play him when needed.

It makes sense and he's only on a p/t contract. Who would be your regular number 4 in the team?

We've got to sign a quality centre frst and then he can be loaned out. Your suggestions make sense as little travelling involved.

I would say Ablett does a good enough job, and has won 2 grand finals playing there, and potentially a third on Saturday

I do wish people wouldn't use winning GF rings as a vindication of that individual's greater worth over another.
Is "good enough" enough to be satisfied with ?

In this instance I feel its valid. The grand final is the toughest domestic game in the season. A players ability to play in a position (especially at centre where you tend to play the full 80, get through a load of work, and get fairly well exposed) during the toughest game of the season shows some good level of ability there.
Francis Meli played there in 2011, and was shown up twice in about 5 minutes by Burrow, and by Ablett himself, though Meli is no stranger to the feeling of having an influence in Leeds scoring at Old Trafford.
IMO, the only part of a centres skillset that he lacks is pace, which is not all that necessary when you have hall on your outside and mcguire on your inside
