Why is it rubbish, facts are there for all to see, he never really became the player he should have been, and despite his natural abilities pace and power became a just above average player.

He had plenty of heart and application. What he didn’t have was mongrel or consistency in defence. He tried to put the big hit in and often missed completely. We all know Reilly didn’t rate him but I think that has coloured a lot of judgement and made people think he was some sort of softy, he certainly wasn’t.

He also became a totally different player at the bulls - far bigger than at Leeds and much less dynamic. That would probably have happened wherever he went.

Haughton was a slightly better version of Andy Hay.

I don't know what happened with Andy hay. He is one of the best prospects I've seen at Cas. A natural loose forward who was quick enough for the three quarters, with a great attitude. He seemed to lose it, was shipped out to Sheffield, then to Leeds where he suddenly thought he was a hard man under Graham Murray. I never rated him after that.

Maybe it was that blow to the head Kelvin Skerritt, that dirty get, gave him.

Apart from score some long range tries Haughton was pretty poor. Nowhere near the best second rows of his time.

That depends. If the category was 'Looking like Joe Longthorne' he was the best second rower ever.

Andy Hay is one of the biggest "Shirt Pullers " that I have ever seen on a Rugby League field as he was a complete turnstile in defence'

It's a good job that whilst he was at Leeds that he had these guys to do the tough stuff and also his tackling too

It was just marvellous. After years of teams like Northern, Widnes and Warrington coming and bullying our feeble packs, we suddenly hard some proper hard nuts.

Oh and how they all squealed when we started dishing it back with interest.

He finished up as a "glass technician"

in Australia, runs his own business I believe. Radlinski said that Haughton didn't really love or enjoy the game, it was just a job to him.

Haughton was in the Guiness Book of Records for scoring 130 tries in a season as an amateur. I think it all came too easy for him at a young age.

Let's not re-write history - admittedly Hay was dire just before he left but he also gave us some good service.

IIRC Andy Hay was decent in the Murray-era side as an impact try-scoring super-sub, and he managed to win some international call-ups (3 caps for England in 2000). It was only after the departure of Murray that his form began to dip and he started playing like a trimmed-down Jamie Mathiou/Chris Feather. He was famously axed while under contract along with Ryan Sheridan and Karl Pratt under coach Daryl Powell in 2002.
