For the 1st Meli effort he simply followed the right side defence in and picked up Manu in the tackle whilst for the 2nd Mcguire went walk about and left him exposed 3 on 1.
I thought he did ok with the ball and was in no way to blame defensively so why change him?'"
He made a few poor reads, but that's not his issue. Main problem is he looks weak in everything he does. He has no strength in the tackle, unless he's in exactly the right position he's brushed off. He runs with very little power also.
He is what he is, not expecting great things from him, but he needs to up his physicality by several levels or really get his positioning 100% right.

| DHM-Re Vickery i think that's a bit harsh but time will tell and as for the right side defence i think the way ST's scored had nothing to do with Vickery mis-reading or weak tackling tbh.
Seems to me after reading some of the OTT comments about him we have a new "scapegoat" or at least it looks like we are heading that way.
FWIW i'm not saying he's quality or top class either i just dont think he's as bad as some suggest but time will tell i do expect Bjb to get back in because thus far he offers more that's not to say Vickery wont improve.

There was a period there where the 18yo Saints centre palmed him off and then run around him, I am not saying he should be dropped yet but it did look terrible.

Not blaming him for anything, just making an observation on his physicality and his strength in the tackle, both with and without the ball.

I'm not saying you are mate dont get me wrong i just think there'as some harsh things getting posted about him in general the 2nd paragraph wasn't aimed specifically at you i just haven't seen what's "as bad" with him as some are saying i've got the game sky+ so i'll watch again without a few cold ones this time
I thought he was unlucky to get injured v Hull and during the WCC didn't have a chance to do much so he's played 2 and a half games and so many are quick to write the lad off i think he should be given time not only that he's already had 2 different Centres to try and build a partnership with which cant be easy.

| Vickery was having horrible positional problems - after 20 minutes he was looking more like a Union import. Hopefully he'll work this out quickly and his team mates will trust him with the ball.

| Very pleased with moon he is a class player , Ryan Hall as always superb as was sinfield . But without doubt the star of the show was Jamie Peacock, to put in a performance like that after the previous weeks stint against the storm was tremendous. Thought Kylie showed up well,on the downside I am not certain Mc Shane is the answer to the hooking berth. Would have liked Lunt to have stayed.

| I enjoyed the game. It was very tactical for the 1st 60. Both teams kicking early, looking to force the error that never came. It reminded me of an NRL game in that sense. Leeds just ground Saints down though and finished their opportunities when it counted. The Moon/Hall combo will cause some damage this year when it dries up. I can't wait until BJB comes back in a month or so too. A 3/4 line of Jones-Bishop, Watkins, Moon, Hall has some points in it.
I thought Peacock and Delaney were immense last night too. I gave the MoM in commentary to Burrow but Peacock wasn't far behind.
Percival really impressed me. When I saw the matchup I thought Ablett would have a field day but that was one of the most impressive debuts I have seen.
The crowd was 12,200ish which was a shame. How 1,000 Leeds fans managed to get there, ill never know. I know a load who gave up and turned around. I was lucky that I found out about the crash on the M62 just after I set off so I went via Burnley over the hills. A 60 mile journey took 3hrs 15 mins and was closer to 100 miles I reckon there would have been another 2k on the attendance had it not been for the crash anyway.
Leeds fans just before kick off
Langtree Park
In game
Leeds fans at Full Time (Good effort)
Tale of the game (Don't let G1 see who I gave my MoM to )

rhinoms I am delighted to say I fully agree with you! As you say some harsh comments have been made on a reserve who signed for free.....what are some folks expecting?
IMO with the ball he is strong in the tackle and hard to put down and was this the second game on the trot where he didn't get a pass from Ablett? He was unfortunate to be defending on the same side of the field where young Percival outshone his opposite number with an outstanding debut... class written all over him..what a prospect!

Did he only play in the first half? I didn't notice him on the field in the second.
BTW, I may have accidentally reported somebody's post on here. I've no idea whose, or why. If it's you, I apologise.

| Very good performance in my view. True Saints had several injuries but Leeds came well prepared and with a good attitude after their WCC defeat and with a solid defensive effort rarely allowed them to play. The pack made the platform for thd victory with JP and Delaney outstanding in defence and on attack where made many metres and had St H constantly on the back foot. Burrow looked sharp and Moon oozes class. Can't wait for Hardaker to return and see what the combination of Moon & Watkins can do in the centres.

| Are we blaming Vickery for the Percival breaks? Because they were not his fault. The last one was on McGuire.

Indeed.
For the first try, Ablett gets done by the decoy run of Manu, and both McGuire and Sinfield are slow to adjust. Vickery gets left two or three on one. and stays on the outside man waiting for the cover to get across.
For the second, Vickery has to jump in to shut down Manu, who gets a really good offload away under pressure.
For the third, McGuire flies out of the line and gets made to look stupid by Percival's footwork.
We also seem to be ignoring Vickery's hand in which prevented an absolute certain try, I think at 4-2 in the first half?

| Leeds looked to me like a side who have targeted the four games starting with Melbourne and finishing with Wigan as a mini playoff series. High intensity in defence, particularly on their own line. Keeping the errors and high risk plays to a minimum.
Saints were undoubtedly weakened by the players they have lost, and the further disruption caused by Wheeler getting injured mid-game. They are asking a lot out of the limited Wilkin and relatively inexperienced Lomax at the moment.

| Yeah Andy but the breaks came down our right flank and so it MUST be Vickery's fault. It's too taxing for certain posters to look at what led to those breaks.

| Bit like the same posters who blamed Keith Senior every time teams made a break down the left hand side in his final season and a half.
I'm coming more to the conclusion that some people look at games rather than actually watch them.

Actually, McGuire was on the opposite side. I don't know if anyone noticed but Ablett was going crazy with McGuire after the Lomax try. On the PTB Ablett was trying to pull more men his side because we were short on the right, but McGuire was doing the same on the left for some reason, even though we looked good over there. The defenders drifted to the left leaving the right massively exposed. Ablett came rushing out of the line because of this trying to kill the move but messed it up, leaving Lomax with the overlap. It was a massive mix up in communication and that was the reason for the try.

Errrr ...an answer to the question as to why, under the exact same circumstances you convey, he is given priority over the acdamey lads who have been conversely waiting patiently for an opportunity to step up from playing in the lower divisions.
If he was an oustanding, exceptional talent then I could more fully understand his leapfrogging straight into the first team.

| I don't understand this argument that Saints were missing so many players and all will be well when they return, an argument that Hinge & Bracket on Sky must have made 20 times.
Unless I've missed something, Makinson, Gaskell and Flanagan are all fit but have been dropped, while according to Saints fans Hohaia, Perry and Wellens are all rubbish.
Meanwhile Leeds were missing Hardaker, BJB and Bailey, all of whom would have improved our run-on team.
Also, did Stevie Ward pick up a knock? Don't recall him coming out for the second half.

| Thought Clarkson went very well. Hitting big in the defensive line.
Probably helped by only been given nine minutes work last week in the warm-up fixture so a big well done to the coaching team for last week.
