I remember being told by a Bulls fan that we only won because they had a try ruled out for a forward pass.
They were 10 nil up at the time, how much of a start did they want?

You did well to spot any of them
One of my main memories of the match is how quickly the Bulls end of the ground cleared at the final whistle.
The Leeds team were doing the 'lap' of honour in front of the half of the ground where their fans were, and, as I was watching that, I remember turning to look at the Buuls fan and they were no-where to be seen.

Sadly newer fans will think there's nothing special about beating Wigan on their own turf, but back then it was pretty special.
Am I right in recalling Bentley scoring a belter of a try???'" Longun..Was that in the early days of Sky*s coverage 1991-92 ish,i can remember that,,did hanley play for Leeds then ?

It was on Sky, or whatever it was called back then. I remember watching the tape. Hanley might have played, but I've slept since then, and tend to forget lots of stuff when I sleep.

| My favourite was one of Peter Fox's last games in charge when we went to Leigh (date TVOC?). We had a banner, "Fox get out!" and stood opposite the dugouts in the first half. In the second half I was laid on top of the away dugout screaming at Fox to "Get out!".

| Not sure of the dates on these, but 2 away days stand out for me :
First was away at Cas in the Premiership when Schoey scored late to win the game, after being sin binned earlier when he had a try disallowed.
The second was Warrington away, I think it was in the John Gallagher days, when Leeds had made a poor start to the season. No one gave them a chance and considering how many supporters were there from Leeds (not many), it showed.
Anyhow, we won 22-10, I'm pretty sure Simon Irving was playing too, and because there weren't that many fans there we seemed to all huddle together singing out hearts out. It was the first time my Mum had driven me to an away game so it was like travelling in luxury, and even though we took a wrong turn and ended up at Manchester Airport on the way back it didn't matter !!!

Were you on the Wally Arnold bus? Did you have the banner up outside the ground as the team arrived? I remember that day, we had the good grace to wait till the Leeds team had performed like spanners before we went to the dugout and gave him grief. That's the only time I've ever done that, I've never been as f****d off with a team.

remember this occuring at salford too
fox was a strange as alex murphy would have been,leeds being the only big club he didn't manage;
the number of coaches tried between 1980 & 1999 it's no wonder Murray wins the popularity contests
Good job the hetherington out banners of 96/97 were ignored

Whatever became of that young second rower - Matt Shaw? Was he either from or ended up at York?

Yes Irving was playing, IIRC kicked a goal from the touchline. Gallagher scored his first try for us that day. You're right about the low turnout from us as we had made an awful start but we all went mental when Gallagher scored.
Another memorable trip to Warrington was near the end of the 88-89 season. We won 10-8 in a monsoon. I remember us scoring the best try I have ever seen in such apalling conditions. A 90 metre team effort finished by Paul Delaney, I think. He was involved in the move somehwere anyway. John Woods missed about 3 penalty goals in last 5-10 mins to level the game.

| Hull FC in the Regal Trophy in about 92. Schofield got the winning try, picking up a loose ball near his own posts and going the length of the field. That shut the codheads up who had been giving him non stop abuse as usual. More memorable for me as it was the first time I'd seen us win at the Boulevard. Think it was also the game when Ellery got his jaw smashed to pieces by Andy Dannatt.
