Awful day with a game to match from a Leeds point of view against a Salford side on a five game losing streak.

The game was only notable for a few things: Richard Webster's debut for Salford after changing codes, Marcus Vassilakopoulos' full debut for Leeds, Doug Laughton missing the game with the flu meaning the after-match media duties were handed to Paul Fletcher - no point asking Laughton's assistant to step up to the mike as he was still in his marcel marceau phase - and last but not least Gary Rose turning out in the afternoon after leaving his bride of a couple of hours at the wedding reception with 200 guests.

I don't know if many have down the years but the last one I recall doing so before Liam Hood was Garry Schofield after he joined during the 1987/88 season. Before him there was Andy Mason (1986/87) and Andrew Smith (1981/82)

Those are the only four I can find over the period 1979/80 to date although I've only scanned the records so can't say there arn't any more where they came from.

(I thought Ali Lauitiiti may have during the SL Era but he didn't score on his debut V Salford although he went on to score tries in his next four.)

Was this one on BBC and during a period of fairly dismal weather? I recall that the Otley transmitter was down (due to snow) for a televised Salford game around that time so my plans to stay at home and watch our progression were stymied



Laughton Out

It was chosen by the BBC as the Saturday fixture and the two week notice wasn't sufficient for Gary Rose and his intended (Julie Wall) to re-arrange their wedding.

After the match Webster was asked 'would you have liked to get on before the 65th minute', his answer ..... NO.

Just read an opinion piece by Laughton while researching the Salford game where he's setting out the case for what we would now know as the 40/20 kick.

With regard to Laughton, here's one to test you TVOC. Which game was his infamous 'Bogey-gate' performance? In my head, I've got it as taking place at the Boulevard.

I can't recall a specific game but I thought the nose-picking was Laughton's mechanism to deter the cameras being trained on him for reactions. In my mind it happened more than just once.

After Sinfield's exploits, I had a look at other club records and there aren't many major individual records that are likely to be passed soon if ever. John Holmes' appearance record is probably unreachable with fewer games played per year, and it will be more than a decade after Sinfield retires before the total points record could be threatened.

The tryscoring records would seem tough as well - beating Eric Harris' season best (63) would probably be harder than his career total (391), although that would take some doing as well.

Maybe the most feasible ones would tries per game (8 by several players) and points per game (actually that's a toughie as well, 42 by Harris), in a cup game against a minnow team?

Does anyone know if there's a list anywhere of the top 10 all-time points scorers for any team. A quick look suggests Wigan's record point scorer (Jim Sullivan) scored close to 4,900 points for Wigan but is there a comprehensive list anywhere for other teams?

Neil Fox must have got a few,but Kev could tot up a few more before he finishes

Slightly OT but still slightly topical... Honourable mention to Leo Messi of Barcelona. He is their record goalscorer at the grand old age of 24. Some effort that.

And a mere 54 goals and 8 hatricks so far this season...it's only March - what a freak!

He does score a crazy amount, but to use Sir Kevs humble approach here. Look at the players around him. Plus the Spanish League is a posh SPL, 2 teams that dominate and the rest range from average to crap

Sir Kev will probably finish his leeds career around 4000 points in my opinion, hopefully more. Dont know where that puts him in regards to an all time top 10 but its a top achievement. Another 200 this season and 300 for the following 3 season.

Think it's a realistic aim for Sir Kev to break into the top three or four (probably dependent on how long both he and Mick Nanyn play for - although with Nanyn a long term injury absentee for Halifax, and possibly gone for the season, he has a chance to make some ground up).

Some familiar names on that list. Can't remember having heard of Jim Ledgard though, and I must admit when I saw the name Mick Nanyn I thought of the ex-wigan forward rather than the rather 'rotund' lad shown on wikipedia. If swiftcorn gets upset about SL records vs previous eras (barmy really given the nowadays highly improbably longevity of the likes of Sullivan and Risman), I suspect his computer would explode if Nanyn managed to break all records whilst being a NL player.

As demonstrated by Spain having 5 teams left in European competition in comparison to England's 1



Like Sir Kev, Messi is by all accounts a very humble player and thoroughly down to earth lad

Sir Kev's position in the all time chart really does show what an achievement his record is. Knocking Farrell out of the top 10 should be the next key milestone for me!

It begs the qustion of how many Sullivan & Gus Risman would have scored but for the second world war.
Though I do know that games continued during the war & presumably points scored still counted in their respective career totals.

And didn't he used to make us sick when he regularly scored for Trinity against us!

Oh!That Trinity Team I used to dread playing against them ,great side,but when we got that win ,last league game before the playoffs and we knew we were top in 1961 at Belle Vue.Next two season they were hammering us again.Yes he used to murder us

6 of Gus Risman's points were for Leeds in the 1942 Challenege Cup Final when he was a guest player for us. Another minor Leeds link, along with Ledgard.

Yet another milestone for Sir Kev against Catalans tomorrow.
