There's been accusations of lack of class, win at all costs attitude and a bad culture at Wigan, I'm just pointing out that its not really the full story. Thats all.

It is a rare situation indeed that doesn't have two sides to the story. No one has suggested otherwise and I'm sure the vast majority of the Wigan club are decent people (just like most other organisations).

No-one or at least very few people on this board have any idea what has gone on between the Wigan and Leeds players but when normally very respectful people are more than willing to voice some disdain, you have to suspect that they have done so with good reason. Given some of the antics of Wane and others in the past, it doesn't take much to imagine the points of contention.

Well there's clearly been a bit of "edge" between the 2 teams that has spilled over several times, I would think that dates back to the infamous Rugby Gods game where a couple of Wigan players (Riddell mainly from what I remember) were out of order. But right or wrong this happens in sport between top teams, the games between Man. Utd & Arsenal used to be very similar (pizzagate etc).
But to say (as some have) that this is symptomatic of some rotten culture at Wigan is just daft, the post game quotes from Wane & Lockers were full of respect for Leeds and their players. I've also heard plenty of quotes from Leeds players complimenting Wigan over the past few years.

That's such an arrogant misconception it's ridiculous. I see it thrown around here quite a lot. We score an unbelievable amount of tries from inside our own half. Joe Burgess set up nearly as many tries as Todd Carney purely from his own breaks. When was the last time a winger assisted 14 tries in a season and wasn't far off top try scorer himself?

I am no fan of wane or wigan but the support of the present team for one of the past has been incredible.
I only watched the union to see how sam did and heard how 'they' were supporting joining jack , prob through the wigan connection but the past wigan and rl suport was not mentioned then or in the following day's press.

Yep, saw Owen Farrell doing the Joining Jack sign in the Wales game but don't remember it being mentioned which is a shame. The Joining Jack charity has been a credit not just to Wigan but the whole of RL, same with the Steve Prescott foundation.
I'm not here to try and make Wigan out as angels, just refuting a minority who are posting nonsense.
In fairness 90% of the Leeds posters on here have said its nonsense or just said they don't care about Wigan, which is fair enough!

Here's the thing. We're a little bit obsessed by you. No doubt about it, however much we deny it. The "older" generation grew up watching us chase you in the 80s and 90s and go bust doing so. You were the standard bearers for those two decades. Now it's bee largely us this last decade and I think we like to puff out our chests in your direction.

I don't like some of your team's tactics but that is a different discussion all together. You're the bad guys around here and that's great but a few of our posters seem to be taking t a little bit far. There appears to be a nice little rivalry building up and, again, that's great. Agree. Also they are one of the top teams. During the 3 in a row years there was extra spice with saints. All top teams who are competing have a bit of added niggle

I still watch the highlights of that infamous '09 Saints Leeds game every so often, no shortage of spice or niggle there!
There'll be some big games between Leeds, Wigan and Saints (and maybe Wire!) over the next couple of years, I can't wait!

On Saturday I watched all the grand final highlights from 04-12. The saints ones which are part of 3 in a row. There was some spice in those games for sure

There might be a bit of that, but I'll tell you something. There's some of that going on in the other direction too. They absolutely can't stand that fact that we are now the bigger, more successful, better supported club. The bile enamating from that other forum is an example. If you look on social media whenever Leeds are playing, always the most vociferous against Leeds or our players are the Wigan fans.

There's a difference between a bit of niggle, and been total s*** houses. We had Bailey as the class clown wind up merchant. They've got Bateman, McIlorum, J.Tomkins, O'Loughlin to name a few. All familiar with cheap shots, head high tackles, laying on the man. It's all coached into them. If you get in Wigan's faces and show you won't be bullied, they don't have an answer

Yep, no doubt there's an element of Wigan fans that still live in the 90s (cue 'looks like the 1890s' joke), i'd hope most would recognise what a mess we were not so long ago and realise we're not doing too bad to be competing among the top teams.

What interests me, is that despite being registered as a member for about 3 years, you've only made 29 posts, just under half of which have been on this thread in the last few days. I think your posts are mostly cogent and your position reasonable (baring in mind your cherry and white bias). But why after years of virtual Trappist silence do we see a flurry of posts defending the "Wigan Culture"? In true through the keyhole fashion I have to ask, "Who inhabits a profile like this?"

Nah, I'm a long time lurker but certain things just grind my gears I suppose, probably shouldn't bite but I thought there wasn't much of a defence being given.
