| Quote ="Andy Gilder"Interesting that this announcement comes on the same day that Bradford announce the release of Dave Halley from the remainder of his contract and that he's off to Keighley until the end of the season to recover his match fitness after a long lay-off.
Still only 24, plenty of experience under his belt and capable of playing either at full-back or on the wing.
I can't understand for the life of me why he's not had a crack ahead of the likes of Royston and Crookes at Bradford, but might he have provided a more cost effective solution than retaining Webb?'"
This is a terrible call. Halley can run fast and has plenty of enthusiasm, but other than that has little ability. Can't break tackles and more error prone than Michael Platt was at the height of his brain explosion period. There's a reason he's being shipped out to Keighley. If Leeds bring this guy in we might as well be looking to bring Worrincy and Sheriffe back to SL as well. If you don't believe me read the equivalent thread on the Bulls board.

I dont remember this been agreed accross the board. Fair play you have banged on about it long enough but i don't think its nailed on.
In this seasson when he would have got more chances than ever, he is yet again injured. Some of these kids are just injury prone.
Personally if our future is built totally around Watkins and BJB i am a little worried.

Oh I don't disagree.....that is why i'm [ualso[/u in favour of giving other promising young uns (like Wilson.. etc) a good run .....and signing a good (NRL?) genuine threequarter (Cooper?) - not another forward masquerading as such.

What is your obsession with Cooper? He must be nearly as old as Senior.

| Fwiw Cooper is 32 and still performing to a very high standard as shown in the WCC and the NRL this year.
Plus he's way ahead of Senior in current form.(before his injury)

| This season is a write off anyway so why not throw one or two of the kids into the fray - give them some experience while it doesn't really count.

I agree with Nantwich on this one. Cooper would still be an outstanding signing, on a maximum 2 year deal. The blind faith in youth, regardless of whether they can cut it, is what I don't particularly agree with. But I'm coming round to the idea that Wilson might be worth a run out.

Hurrah !
With respect there is no 'blind faith' in my sentiments; simply a preference to youth being given an opportunity over the alternative of persisting with tired old [ihas beens[/i that are out of form/long past their best (Senior, Ali, Lleulai, Bailey, Kirke etc) or, worse, playing regulars [u[iregularly[/i[/u out of position (Sinfield, Delaney and Ablett).

I understand where you're coming from, but the young players have to be good enough, otherwise there's little point. I don't know if they are personally, but I'm sure the coaching staff (like them or not) have their own opinions on that.

| I though Webb was the best player on the field last night. I had my heart in my mouth each time he touched it.
Not seen him play that well for a couple of years.

| I thought Danny Buderus was the best player on the field last night, closely followed by Sam Tomkins then Brent Webb. Other notably mentions for Zak Hardaker and BJB from Leeds, and Hoffman and Mossop from Wigan.

Agree -He still looks the part from what I have seen of him in the NRL this year.
Look at Steve Menzies, puts many younger players to shame for skill, dedication and fitness and what is he 36/37.

| I'm glad webby is staying on for another year, he is our most creative player at present, he needs to stop the back chat though. Bish is class, but he's been out alot this year and one more year with webby around will be good for him, and the team, if it was up to me i'd give bish the 2 jersey next season.

| He did. Looked dangerous with the ball and was solid in defence. His back-chat really lets him down.

| Against the Bulls he was giving Ganson lip and gave away a penalty - result:- The Bulls took the two.
Against Wigan, again lip to the official in a similar position and gave away a penalty - result:- Wigan in that play scored six points.
He hasnt been the same player for a couple of years now IMO - I am also at a loss as to Halley leaving the Bulls. Halley has got to be worth a pay as you play Super League contract - and he is a better full back than Webb and more likely to break the line.
There is an old saying "If things don't change they will stay the same!"

| Webb, Kirke & Kylie are all good players, and would easily be in the first team of at least 10 other Super League clubs. Fine and dandy. But at the risk of sounding arrogant, or whatever... We're Leeds?! We're supposed to be challenging for the top. I'm not expecting us to win every year. That's totally unrealistic. And in sport, as in life, there are peaks and troughs. Which is fine.
But how long is Bish gonna have to wait for his chance at FB? How long is Kirke going to get away with doing nothing? and couldn't Ambler/Amor be learning Kylie's job?
It's getting ridiculous now.
