| Honest question.
How do you all get to hear about all these nobody groups?
What's up with Girls Aloud, Take That, Beyonce, etc?

It depends how much you like music, It's like a rugby fan knowing about the young lads in the academy, your casual rugby fan would just know the names of the top players.
Nowt wrong with girls aloud or beyonce, you can keep TT.

Personally ithe way I've done it over the years has changed dramatically with the internet making a bigger impact now. Back when I was 14 it was a case of word of mouth between mates. You know you'd have mates who had older brothers and sisters and they would pass on some tips. I had an older sister that loved early house music and the like so i got into the hacienda dance sceen that then moved me into the direction of the likes of joy division, new order, happy mondays and the stone roses. We then would go to umbo Records when we got older and they would recommend stuff to us to try out. Add to that going to see unsigned bands around leeds from the age of 15 (I was lucky to have a parent who was more than happy to take me and a few mates to gigs).
Nowadays its all down to the internet. I go on a lot of forums (some of which are predominately file sharing and what would be deemed illegal download sites). people post stuff and give a brief description. Its free music so i'll download it and try it out. if I like it i'll tend to buy the albums then so as to alleviate the guilt of illegal downloading. I have found tons of bands doing this now and its a good time waste at work i suppose. I also do pick up tips of new bands from the press. i steer clear of the likes of the NME as they usually talk complete boll*cks but i've had a lot of good tip offs from the Metro newspaper.
As for the likes of the artists you mentioned, I dont like them because i just dont like their style of music. i do like Girls Aloud however as they produce quality pop music, not so much them but the team behind them (I have followed Xenomania for a long time). As for Beyonce I find her bland and repetitive and Take That I see the plus side of their music and will say they are very good and talented but i just dont like their style.

Go to Spotify.com, download the interface and start listening to tons of music, for free - and you'll also get lots of recommendations of new artists to listen to, you might not like most of them, but you'll have an opinion on every one rather than wonder who the hell they are.

| Last night I booked two tickets for an Abba tribute night at Leeds Grand and for The Script at O2 Leeds.
There's £100 I won't see again.
And no, none of the tickets are for me.

| went to the supurb refurbished outdoor theatre in scarborough last night. if you get chance to go then you should, it's a magnificent venue. saw the 80's rewind tour.
paul young and boy george left there voice back in 1983 i think!
toyah, hazel o'connor and kid creole were pretty good as was rick astley.
show stealers were midge ure, nik kershaw t'pau, who shocked me with how good they were, and heaven 17 who stole the show with a supurb rendition of temptation.
for those of an age i would urge you to go, this was a great night
