I hate it when the page flicks over like that.
Two (of the three) unbeaten Play-Off Coaches going head to head.
There can be only one ..... sort of.

| Special milestone request...
So Ali made the 200 appearance mark in the GF and I understand this was pretty significant for an overseas player - so can the mighty stat machine TVOC (or someone else) give a list of overseas Leeds RL players by number of appearances (and preferably when they played)
PS also can we have an updated GF stats list

That's quite a tall order as my own personal records only cover the period 1979-80 to date but I'll have a crack at it by combining those, with the Headingley Story Volume 2 and ask my memory to fill the transition between the two and try and avoid anyone falling through the cracks. In addition there will need to be some research to identify the origins of some unfamiliar names.
Edit: Thinking about it there was an overseas ban in place covering the transitional phase (lifted in 1983-84) so that should help.

| Where were you an hour ago when I needed you?
My list looks uncannily familar to that one except I have (or rather Ken Dalby had) Bert Cook playing 210 times for Leeds rather than the the 201 reported in that article.
On the plus side I now know the origins of some players with more than 200 appearances that were previously only names on a page so it's all good and highlights what a fertile area the Welsh valleys have proved over the years.

| Rob rather than Bob but point taken although Ackerman was a little tarnished after he arrived via Whitehaven of all places. That has to have an effect. Steve Ford was an unknown (even in Wales) leaving only David Young as a genuine big expectation Welsh flop although his introduction to League was I thought poorly handled by Leeds and he aquitted himself fairly well out of the limelight at Salford.
However to more than balance those three there were the likes of: Evan Williams (415), Joe Thompson (390 - 3rd highest goal kicker in club's history - not a bad signing for £300), Lewis Jones (385 - still Leeds' top points scorer on 2,920), Dai Prosser (via York - 327 and Leeds' coach for their first Championship win in '61), Con Murphy (via Acton & Willsden - 295), Dai Jenkins (via Streathem & Mitcham 292), Willie Davies (278 - a member of the GB Ashes winning side after arguably their most famous Test Match - Rorke's Drift, Sydney 1914), Jim Bacon (276) and Dickie Williams (233)
All Leeds greats and those were just the ones who played more than 200 times for the club. How about including some that didn't: Tony Fisher (121 - if there has been a harder player I don't think I've seen him), Oliver Morris (61 - a casualty of the second World War), Ike Owens (124 - one of Britain's finest loose forwards) and Frank Young (159)
Never forgetting the inspirational and innovative coaching genius that was Roy Francis all the way from Brynmawr.
So overall I think the Leeds club owe a tremendous amount of gratitude to their many Welsh recruits - and I haven't even needed to mention Iestyn.

I'm certain there was also a ban in place from the mid 50s throught the 60s.I think we got round signing Ken Thornett because at the time he was'nt a regestered RL player.I think he came from Randwick ru club.I ive just looked it up and Ken made 131 apps

| Am I right in thinking that Sinfield only requires 68 points to take the club points scoring record?I wanted to try to gauge my next trip home for the game he may break it,but his scoring rate recently he could do it in march and it could be bit too early for me

| That's correct.
Taking this season's average as a guide (330 from 36 = 9.17) it'll be during his 8th appearance of 2012.
Obviously it's impossible to know when his 8th appearance will come even if that proves to be the game when the record goes.
Bearing that in mind the 8th Leeds game of this season was 1st April 2011 and Sinfield had added 1 try, 32 goals and a drop goal for a total of 69 points.

| So, potentially...
Game 7 - 16th March at Salford
Game 8 - 24th March at Saints
Game 9 - 30th March v Huddersfield
Game 10 - 6th April at Bradford
Game 11 - 9th April v London
It would be nice if he could do it at home against Huddersfield although at Saints new ground with a recognition of it at Headingley the following week would be Ok as well.

I think it must. Checking in the handbook, which arrived this morning with my new season ticket, he's made 372 starting appearances and 27 substitute ones, making 399.

Yes, that's the total I have and the correct split for Sinfield's 1st grade career with Leeds:
Appearances - 399
Starts - 372
Substitute - 27
Tries - 67
Goals - 1279
Drop Goals -27
Points - 2853
After hitting the 400 his next landmark will be his 300th start in the SL Regular Rounds as he currently rests on 297. He also needs one try for 50 in the Regular Rounds.
Life must be almost like one long milestone for Sinfield.

| Good question.
I have no complete count but using a combination of the Headingley Story and my own records post 1979/80 I can also get to a total of ten names.
Using Appearances (under which heading I include starts and substitutions)
1 - 624 - John Holmes (603 + 21) noted that other records show 625 (604 + 21)
2 - 543 - Fred Webster
3 - 518 - John Atkinson (512 + 6)
4 - 480 - David Ward (440 + 40)
5 - 479 - Alan Smith (468 + 11)
6 - 442 - Jim Brough
7 - 434 - Ray Batten (420 + 14)
8 - 432 - Les Dyl (418 + 14)
9 - 415 - Evan Williams
10 - 410 - Neil Hague (392 + 1icon_cool.gif

| The all-time Leeds points scoring record countdown is on so I'll be posting an updated count after each match until Lewis Jones' long standing total is finally eclipsed.
After Round 1's 10 point haul Sinfield is now on 2,863 (57 to tie 2,920 - 58 to claim the record outright)
_________
Assuming he plays at Wigan - Ryan Bailey, after making his 200th SL Regular Round appearance last week and becoming the 9th Leeds player to do so with the club will this week make his 250th Leeds appearance in all comps, again becoming the 9th Leeds player to do that also.
The previous eight were: Rob Burrow, Francis Cummins, Matt Diskin, Jamie Jones-Buchanan, Barrie McDermott, Danny McGuire, Keith Senior and Kevin Sinfield.
Ryan Hall, should he play, will be making his 100th appearance in the SL Regular Rounds.
__________
With many thanks to =#0000BFA-Fire-Inside for the following:
Danny McGuire needs one appearance to reach 300 for his career. McGuire made his Leeds debut against Salford at Headingley on 6 July, 2001 and has played in 271 games for the Rhinos since then.
McGuire has made 12 Test appearances for Great Britain (2004 & 2006-2007) and also played for the Lions in the 2006 Tri-Nations warm-up game against Newcastle Division.
He also has representative honours for England (7 games, 2008-2009); England 'A' (6 games, 2002-2003) and England under-21s (2 games, 2001).

| Very possible Mcguire could make his 300th appearance for Leeds in the Grand Final then. Would be good to round that milestone of with a win. Could he do it in the Challenge Cup final?
