| Quote ="A State of Trance"Given someone has mentioned about a guide to Headingley and someone saying Ari Gold should do a pub review of Headingleys boozers (no chance, he cant remember any of them, i thought i would take it on my big broad shoulders and give you my personal review of the public houses of Headingley
[uThe Oak[/u
Good old "ole time" boozer in Headingley with a beer garden just ever so slightly shorter than Cala Millor Rhinos chest. An alright pub, normal ales you would fine in all other boozers and do nice food however their is a downfall...
AVOID IN THE SUMMER
If nice weather the tax dodgers and Ari Gold will be out in the garden taking up your drinking space and wasting their money on the wee water that is Carling and lapping up the sun
[uThe Skyrack[/u
Over the road from the Oak is the Skyrack. Now before I start my review of this public house ill lead you into a personal opinion of this pub...
its sh[ii[/ite, i hate it. Now dont take my opinion for granted, after all I like Girls Aloud. However there is something that makes me mad about this place. It feels IMHO that they want YOU to feel honured that you have stepped in their pub. I dont. Horrible floors and beer is as flat as a Danny McGuire pass
[uHeadingley Taps[/u
My fave boozer in Headingley, nice inside, good choice of same alcohol as everywhere else AND if its a Sunday, they do a cracking Sunday lunch with a drink for £4.95 which will leave you full for the rest of the day.
[uTrio, Arc and The Box[/u
These three "Bars" ive labbeled together as well, they are owned by the same bloke. Trio has a bar which sells foreign beers which is alright. Arc is very nice and expensive and has a lovely food bit next door (The baked Brie and Onion Chutney is very nice). The Box is expensive and full of wannabe Uni WAGS
Up Otley Road going away from the Headingley centre is three other booozers famous for being the starting point of the infamous "Otley Run"
[uWoodes (The Woodsman for McLaren Field[/u)
Pub with wooden features, simlar sort of alcohol you would fine anywhere else
[iThe Three Horseshoes[/i
My fave drinking hole in the world at minute, nice warm feeling, cheap food & drink and show RL (well they didnt on Saturday but most other times they do)
[iThe New Inn[/i
The landlord is a Robin (or the last time i went in was) ok pub, usually very busy but they do have the added bonus of having a Dart board
any opinions please leave below ta!'"
Can you tell me where the pub avoid in the summer is i might give it a try next time i am in the area?

I stand corrected.
Wasnt there another pub on the other side of the road further up maybe I am getting it mixed up with that.

| Box do a decent pizza deal that can come in handy before Friday night games but Arcadia followed by the Taps has the better beer near to the ground.

| Quote ="gulfcoast_highwayman"I grew up on the estate behind it (Well, got bigger. I've never really grown up).
For a while in the late 80's early 90's my sister was a barmaid there. It was a cracking little boozer. New Years 1989/90 in there was one of the funnest times I've ever spent.
Sadly, in the mid 90's the Queens rugby team started frequenting it. It became dangerous for anyone but locals (and dodgy locals at that) to venture past it's doors. Within a few years, the police had had enough and refused to give them a licence. It's now been converted into student flats.'"
I was around mid 80's and it did have a bit of a rep then. Queens guys were always in there in the tap room usually, but I hardly ever saw any trouble. We started going down there with several of the Leeds Uni League team who we were mates with (who knew several Queens players) and just got known. Plenty of students wouldn't go anywhere near it though. I didn't think it was possible but they actually managed to serve a good pint of Stones. The day we all graduated we all went down there with our Mum's and Dad's at lunchtime, suits, gowns the lot - happy memories.
I heard it officially changed it's name to the Little Park (from The Park) after I moved away, and I had heard that it was no longer in existance. Shame.

Only bar in recent times ive thought is any cop is the bar at the hotal gym thing up the top end of town towards tingley. not expensive and a decent pint. apart from that i avoid morley like the plague. Needless isnt too bad, but thats on the morley/batley divide'"
Needless, as mentioned before, is a bit cliquey for my liking. Also, due to the golf club connection, one of my best mates refuses to go in.
The Royal I used to frequent very regularly on a Friday/Saturday night, as did most of Morley, and from there it was often into The Brunswick, when that was open and before they opened up the pool room and it went downhill.
As for the people going into The Rock, I think I know a few of them too. What sort of age group are we looking at here? I left school in the late '80's and some of them were at school with me.

Every time you mention a pub it's one I know! Nelson's about 50 yards from my current abode. I don't go in often, usually just after LUFC games, but it's a much changed place from the one I remember. It used to be full of kids, but whenever I've been in on a Saturday recently it's been packed, and not with football fans. I think it gets quite a bit of trade from the new part of the Springfield estate.
The Brunswick - back in the late 80's/early 90's it used to be a cracking little pub, but then they opened up the pool room, the beer went downhill and that was the beginning of the end. It's last days were awful, an absolutely disgusting place.
As for Simon Burnley, the name doesn't ring a bell, but I'd hazard a guess I'd know the face. One guy who I do know from the Rock is Jason Thompson, who I was at school with and is now my window cleaner.

That was the Newlands (later re-named The Jolly Brewer). It was fire-bombed and burned to the ground in the afor-mentioned riots of '95, as it was rumoured that the landlord was an ex-copper who had provided the police with information on estate drug dealers. The raids on said drug-dealers is what kicked off the whole riot.

All you need to know about the decline of Headingley boozers! Like so many, I first encountered the wonderful world of drinking in the Woodman (as it was). New Inn was alright but the Three Shoes always felt like drinking with your Dad and his mates (full of Rah Rahs as well).
The students never really bothered me when they were still duffel coat wearers planning 'sit ins' etc.
Slightly OT, but the East Street Crawl was always a laugh (hardly any of it left). We ended up including the Trotters and the White Horse at one stage.
We once tried a pint/half in every pub in town ( we managed 25-26ish - memory not so clear for obvious reasons) with The Pack Horse, The Market Tavern and the General Elliot being 'stand outs'
I've mentioned it before but can anyone remember the name of the pub that very briefly occupied what, I think became Casa Loco (just down from the Chinese Supermarket)? It was on the said town run and was truly odd.

Arcadia is that strange place in the Arndale Centre isn't it ?
Just doesn't feel right having a pub in a shop unit, especially in a soul-less concrete shopping development - a bit like the pub that used to be inside The Merrion Centre, its not right, should be illegal.

| Chaplins was the one, opposite the shop on the corner with arguably the strangest stock combination, gas fires and swimming trunks!
Seem to remember going to plalce called 'Baccus' round the back by the bowling alley. Bertie Wooster's at the other end with the wonderfully named 'Sin Bin Crew' scrawled on the side (was there for years).

Hi Mate, we have just joined the Leeds West Riding Cricket League division two - and yes we are interested in hearing from any players looking to join a new club.
PM me or get in touch via the clubs [url=http://www.yorkshirepostcc.co.ukwebsite[/url if you are interested.

No, but it was the late 80's, around the time of my 18th, so my figure was somewhat different to now. Suffice to say, the trunks were a slightly different style to what I'd wear to swim in these days.
