| Quote ="Andy Gilder"Or alternatively, that he's adept at setting up others while still being able to take any opportunities which open up for him.
Half a dozen tries a season isn't a bad return for a back row forward IMO, particularly when you factor in the other elements to his game.'"
Indeed.
Look at 2004 for example. Leeds scored a bucket load of tries that year. Sinfield returned 4. There's only so many tries to go around and it is not his job to be on the end of them.
So much more goes into a try than who puts down the ball but the less educated fan only sees the try scorers I guess.

| I don't care if he never scores another try for Leeds.
Just keep banging over those kicks from the touchline, Kevin, that will do for me.

| Kevin Sinfield has now closed within 6 goals of equalling the total set by Lewis Jones for Leeds.
1) Lewis Jones - 1,244
2) Kevin Sinfield - 1,212 + 26 (dg) = 1,238
__________
Somewhat ironically, just as Sinfield closes in on the record points scored in SL fixtures (Regular Rounds + Play-Offs) the current number 1 (Deacon) has rediscovered his scoring touch with both boot and ball and hand.
1) Paul Deacon - 2,409
2) Kevin Sinfield - 2,392
Only delaying the inevitable (?) but an unexpected response nonetheless.

1) Lewis Jones - 1,244
2) Kevin Sinfield - 1,216 + 26 (dg) = 1,242
__________
Sinfield is also poised to stand alone at the head of Leeds' Challenge Cup totals in the SL Era in the following categories:
Appearances, Starts, Goals, Drop Goals, Points.
He currently shares the most starts with Keith Senior on 40. He also just needs 2 points to become the first Leeds player in the SL Era to register 300 points in the Challenge Cup.
Challenge Cup:
Kevin Sinfield, Played 40 + 2, Tries 14, Goals 119, Drop Goals 4, Points 298
While not being noted generally for his prowess at crossing the whitewash, Sinfield's Challenge Cup tries place him equal 4th along with Scott Donald behind Mark Calderwood (17), Rob Burrow (16) and Danny McGuire (16)

I'm just a little too young to remember Mr Jones' feats on the field; and too old to have him as my class teacher.....but I feel a little sad for him to have his record surpassed. By all acccounts he was an exceptional talent on the field.
Take nothing away from Sinfield: he too will be remembered as a Leeds legend. Congratulations Kevin.

| Lewis Jones - 2,920
Kevin Sinfield - 2,752
168 to tie, 169 for the record.
*Taking this season as a guide: 223 points from an ever-present run of 26 games at an average of 8.577 suggest he'll need another 20 games to hit the mark.
Leeds should just about get a minimum of six more fixtures in this season so allowing for such as fitness, form and selection we appear to be looking around mid May, possibly Challenge Cup 4th round or Rd 14 of SL.
__________
*Edit, just noticed these figures don't include Sunday's cup-tie. Should read 229 points in 27 now at an average of 8.481. The 20 more games remains unchanged. Sorry about that.

I am planning a trip in late may ,but I will try to time it for the game he breaks Lewis's record. It will be a great achievement and to think he will have at least 3 seasons left in him,if and when he does it the record will stand probably for alltime

| Rob Burrow drew level with Francis Cummins with his first try last night and moved clear a couple of minutes later with his second as he became Leeds' 3rd highest try scorer of the SL Era.
1 - Danny McGuire 196
2 - Keith Senior 171
3 - Rob Burrow 137
4 - Francis Cummins 136
5 - Mark Calderwood 106
Ryan Hall is poised to become only the 6th member of the exclusive 100+ club as he currently sits next in line on 96.
The chance to become the 'quickest' try centurian (in terms of games taken) has already gone, although he's highly likely to take the 1st runner up spot when he hits his ton.
SL Era: Appearances taken to register 100 tries for Leeds
1 - Danny McGuire 113
2 - Mark Calderwood 136
3 - Francis Cummins 150
4 - Keith Senior 181
5 - Rob Burrow 216

| Ryan Hall has made 116 appearances for his 96 tries. That leaves him 19 games to knock off the next 4 touchdowns and slide into 2nd spot on the mini table.
Sorry about that, I wrote it down then somehow forgot to include it.

And in 38 of those 113 appearances, McGuire started on the bench.

Lewis Jones - 2,920
Kevin Sinfield - 2,821
99 points to go level, 100 to take over at the top.
__________
Not forgetting that Danny McGuire today became only the 5th Leeds player to record 200 tries for the Headingley club and the first non-winger at that.
1 - Eric Harris 391
2 - John Atkinson 340
3 - Alan Smith 283
4 - Drew Turnbull 228
5 - Danny McGuire 200
